Hounding After Hours

Hope everybody's well tonight.

When are we ever well?


Mentally-speaking, at any rate.

My brain is a 40 year-old maggot-filled garbage truck sitting out in the sun on a hot August day. The fact that I can have a civilized conversation several times a day is a major achievement for me and takes every ounce of energy I have.

People should be cautious when they mention the words "blow up" anything around me.

<starts pulling household chemicals out from under bar and mixing a special kind of cocktail>

Realized I haven't had dinner yet!

*rumages through cupboards*

Ugh. It's supposed to hit 95 degrees today. I've been up since six, trying to get my chores done before the worst of the heat. Last day of school for the boys. *waves a fond goodbye to productivity*

Hey, Houndies - If I may draw your attention to this post. Non-paying, but I can vouch for their professionalism and they put out a gorgeous journal. I was overjoyed with their presentation of my story in their last issue.

We're supposed to hit 80 After I get the dog good and tired out, it's me, sunscreen, and the back patio. I don't care what the kids do. They can run amok for all I care. I'm grabbing some sun.

Prescription picked up from allergist - check
Negotiating morning traffic in repeated duluges without wrecking Hub's car - check
40 miles back across town for kids' 9 am swim lessons - check

Ok, so I was five minutes late on that last one...

What day is it?!?

I'm back home after my little 'vacation'. Its amazing how getting away even if its only 2 blocks from your apartment can relax you and make you feel like you've just had a week off.

Time for more painting!

*fires up spray paint cans*

Those dunce caps make me think of unicorns...

*sigh*

I've spent too long around the little lady.

Unicorns are awesome. I spent my morning hanging out with a 2 yr old. Note to self: Never give a kid a piece of chocolate cake and let her eat it with her hands. She will then try to hug you and smear her cakey, sugary hands all over you. Kisses will follow and they will be cakey, sugary and drooly.

She was damn cute, though, so I didn't mind that much.

I can handle chocolate everywhere (though getting it in my hair does tend to make me short tempered), but the sugar high is what really kills me - kids are hyper enough without adding to the energy levels.

1 sugar high
+ 1 backyard
-----------------
1 kid ready for a nap after about 1 hour.

Yeah, but the naps are so short, and the energy levels go straight back up after they have rested for ten minutes...
