Do you imagine music...

Backing up...

Do you imagine your novel on the big screen?

Do you envision who would play that parts?

Me? I am constantly hearing music that I imagine fitting scenes in my ms to a tee...

It's almost aggravating...cause, yanno, if my ms were ever made into a motion pic, I'd prolly have NO say in the soundtrack.

Pfft.

I always imagine my characters being played by brilliant new actors, you know, in that film that made them big. Like it was in StarWars (not that I would consider all those actors "brilliant", but you get the idea, right?).

I'm siding with Tarantino on the casting angle - bring back the great actors who have fallen out of favor in recent years. I actually let out a little yelp when I saw Sonny Chiba in Kill Bill. Yeah, I am that pathetic.

I have certain songs that I attribute to my characters. I don't envisage them as movie soundtracks songs but more like a personal soundtrack to my novel

When I'm listening to the classics I can often attribute a scene the music would go with.

Nope. Never.

I am one of the few remaining writers who will admit it and frequently reminds the reader that they are holding and reading a text.

When I'm writing, I tend to listen to music. I have often found songs that fit the characters I'm writing in that moment, or in the scene. Sometimes I'll be listening to the radio in the car or while doing work and it will inspire me to think of a character.

The reverse is not true; it's very rare that I actually think of a song when I'm writing in silence.

I almost always see my story playing out as a movie in my head.

And when I hear certain songs, they usually trigger a scene in my head.

I once had a dream of becoming a Writer/Director, so it's kinda inevitable that I imagine the words I write as action on the big screen. I don't picture the actors playing the roles though (ie. Brad Pitt as my MC), because my characters are my own. Oh yeah. They'd have to find someone new for those roles. But sure, I hear the soundtracks. I see what are special effects and what's just damn good prop use. Maybe I'm strange that way.

I used to write with music playing in the background. If it was classical, I would use long words and paragraphs; it it was rap, my writing would be staccato stuff, short words, hurried paragraphs; country music made me write soppy stuff, and pop music meant my story being subverted completely.

So, reluctantly, I now write in silence. I don’t mind bird song, or the sound of the waves lapping against the shore (I’m dreaming), or even distant traffic.

When I stop for a break, I turn on the music as loud as I dare to make up for the lost time.

Guilty as charged. On the music count, anyway. Whenever I hand a short story or something to someone, I want to tell them to read with with such and such song by such and such band, just so they get the right feel. ^_^ With regards to films, it's only the one that plays inside my head.

I only imagine music when I'm writing action scenes, and it's generally from the Flash Gordon soundtrack. Bad movie, awesome music.

Me too. I'll even play the music every time I work on the scene during rewrites. I think it helps me get all I can from specific scenes.

Always. I also have the official soundtrack for my WIP, what is making it easier, but I also use Immediate Music, X-Ray Dog, Two Steps from Hell and Audiomachine (If there will be a movie about my WIP, they're the candidates for the music too, parallel the OST.). Also I'm writing it to have a chance to adapt it quickly to screenplay one on one. So I'm adding every necessary detail and even imagined camera angles into the novel. Music is very helpful by my opinion as it can give a rythm to your work, what the reader also can notice (As one of my beta said).

Not a sound track but parts at least of a score. I wrote a particular kind of music into a scene of my WIP as it's culture-building and very relevant to that race. I dream big so if I even got half way there I think at least someone making a film out of it would probably include that.
