xiao, Ewwwww. They picked the wrong place to hatch.

It feels like -6 here. It's crazy. I'm not used to it. So, I am ashamed to admit, I drove the 0.7 miles to the gym rather than walking or taking the bus (which I usually do). My breath froze to the rear window of my car. But I got my favorite spot on the weight floor. Minor victories, really.

While I have no idea what's in the Queen's purse--a few Kleenex, a linty half-roll of Livesavers, that bead that fell off something, pix of the grandkids--I read that how she carries it serves as a signal to her staff. There's a way for "I'm not feeling well" and another for "Get me out of here!"

I'd work out something like that for my purse, but nobody'd pay any attention.

Otherwise, here in SF, trying to settle in. I have like one thing a day on my list of "real world" stuff to try and accomplish -- by which I mean, "non-writing stuff." Because I have so much of that latter category, yeah, one of the real world a day is plenty. Plus, it's just trying to figure out how to operate in a new city, yanno? Where things are. How things work. I've been up here a ton but it's different when it's just a few days or a week at a time.

Writing...I have page proofs. Acknowledgments. Promo stuff. Those are due next week. I have a blog post to write tonight. A panel to moderate in a little over a week. Other stuff I'm forgetting.

Oh, yeah, a book to write.
