Yikes! That's entirely on me--and Mrs. Katz, my third grade teacher. We lived so near the Canadian border that we could literally see people waving on clear days, so we learned a bit of Canadian geography along with American. And apparently Mrs. Katz could not spell Ottowa Ottawa, and taught the incorrectly spelling you see to all 25 of us.

To this day, I'm aware it's a trouble word in terms of spelling, and I know I learned it incorrectly, but now I struggle with which is the wrong one I was taught. I shouldn't trust my gut and faulty memory, but obviously I did. Oops!

On the next update, not only will I add you but I will correct this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I actually grew up very close to the American border, and could also see people waving from the other side of the river on good days. ^__^

Ottowa is a common spelling error, actually. Robbie Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls once wrote that he had a great concert in Ottowa.

It's just how we pronounce it.
