Alien Languages at Westercon

This Sunday at Westercon in Tempe, AZ, I will have the pleasure of co-anchoring a panel with Dr. Stanley Schmidt of Analog Magazine and Sheila Finch, author of The Guild of Xenolinguists. The topic will be designing alien languages, and both of these folks are absolute experts. The panel will be from 10-11:30, and thereafter at 2pm I will be reading my Analog short story, "Let the Word Take Me," which also deals with linguistics.

Cool! Is that kind of a first? Great idea.

BTW We recently responded to a post on another forum coming up with alien words and names by suggesting a look at Mayan glossaries online. It's about as alien as earth languages get.

And we're stuck with it :-)

I have an amendment to the above announcement. The panel time is at 11, not 10. Sorry for the confusion. My reading is still at 2pm.
