This is a really interesting thread, and I'm glad to hear others have the same reaction I did. I always thought that the day I received the box of my book in hardcover, I would weep tears of sheer joy. The day that box finally arrived, I cut it open, took one out and thought, "Well, of COURSE. I worked hard enough to get here." It wasn't a letdown or anything, just another step in the process.

The most exciting part, to me, is when you go to do a booksigning or some other sort of event, and people who don't know you have come out to hear you, to buy your book, and to talk with you. And when you start getting nice letters from people a continent away who read your stuff and like it, and thought enough of it to drop you a line . . . well, that's about as neat as it gets. (It was such a neat experience that I blogged about it.)
