Does anyone know anything about this publisher beyond the information on their website? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yet another POD house founded as a self-publishing operation. The only hint of vanity on the website is "We provide assistance to aspiring and unpublished authors alike", so if it's indeed pay-to-play, it's bait-n-switch.

Well, you can't copyright titles or character names. And the original Rascal could conceivably be the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of the current one

I find it odd that the book cover gives the author's name as "Alice Gray" and the marketing page gives it as "Cissy Haskell" without any explanation.

Roseheart isn't a vanity publisher. I'm published by Roseheart, and while it is a small organization, it is strictly standard royalties without advance. I believe though that their contract is out of date, and if you do submit, you can question some of the items in it. This is why it's listed on P&E as a vanity publisher. I think if Roseheart revised its contract, P&E would change its rating.

That sort of sounds like saying that if they stopped being a vanity publisher they wouldn't be a vanity publisher?!?!

If P&E lists Roseheart as a vanity, it's because they've gotten reports that Roseheart charges their authors for something. P&E will change the rating if it ever gets reports that Roseheart is acting like other small publishers. A change in contract terms may or may not help change the rating, depending on what the changes are.

Sorry, you're absolutely right. Should have explained. There are one or two ambiguous statements in Roseheart contract that are out of date. They request no payment for anything. And they pay standard royalties from first sale. They distribute through all the major outlets. Now, you don't get a marketing budget, granted, but they work hard at getting the project out professionally. They aren't Random House, if that's what you're looking for.

I can only speak from my own experience. I paid for nothing. Get standard royalties from day one. They are now publishing a second novel. I mentioned to them that they have a P&E comment that shows them as a vanity publisher, and they claim they have tried to have it changed.

I'll try to notify them of this discussion. In the meantime, if you have a project, you may wish to give them a try.

I see that they don't accept simultaneous submissions. That means either they take only one MS from an author at a time or they want an exclusive. It's not made clear.

...and of course there's that 'peaks' for 'piques' mistake that one sees over and over. Surely a competent editor should have caught that.
Why doesn't George R. R. Martin use Twitter? He already killed off all 140 characters.

Also, one success or one good experience doesn't make a vanity publisher non-vanity.

Has anyone actually contacted this publisher for information? EJT seems to have an established relationship as they are publishing his books. Besides, P&E is getting sued for posting wrong information.

What's your connection to the publisher, Helene?

I'm not sure whether the P&E comment is intended as a threat, but in case you're just looking out for our best interests, I wouldn't worry too much. P&E doesn't just apply the vanity label with a pin: Dave Kuzminski will have a solid reason and documentation thereof.

The only publisher I know to have sued him is PA, and that's something of an 'enemy of my enemy' situation for me.

I don't have a connection to any publisher yet. I was checking around to see what my options are as I want to submit my first novel to small publishers and ran across this. That's all.

    RoseHeart Publishing Website:
    GENRE LIST:
Romance, Contemporary, Historical, Family Sagas, Gothic, Regency, Mainstream, Mystery, Action/Adventure, Thrillers, Suspense, Fantasy, Futuristic, Paranormal, Science Fiction, Time Travel, Poetry, Non-Fiction, Inspirational and Children's Books (should be at least 12 pages).
The fact that they're accepting practically any genre is the first red flag. It's usually better for a start-up publisher to specialise in one or two genres, typically those where the people behind the company have the most experience or contacts so that it can employ the best marketing strategy.

The second red flag is that they accept poetry. There is almost no market for poetry books out there because so few people buy it. Those poetry collections that are published are usually by poets who are already well respected within the poetry community and have a good line of credits behind them.

The covers of its published books are nothing to write home about. Some look like clip art and although the original artwork is miles better than I could do, it still doesn't look professional.

There's nothing to indicate where the books are available and certainly nothing to suggest that they're sold within stores.

Interestingly, I took a look at the titles for one of its authors and books that are listed as being published by RoseHeart Publishing all seem to have been published before through an alternative POD/self-publishing operation.

There's nothing to suggest they pay an advance and no details on royalties payable.

In short, Helene, there are better small publishers out there.

    MM

I found more errors in the book descriptions.

An action adventure with a touch of romance, a dab of horror and a whole lot of suspense when the forces of good and evil are at war and the Maze is the unstable bi-product of the game of ‘Chance’.

From the philisophical questions raised in "Growing Young"...

One shiny penny tossed into a fountain wishing for a daddy sends the wheels of fate in motion.
These wouldn't persuade me to read further, much less to spend money on the books.
