:welcome:Valca!

Peggy, I FINALLY got the see the trailer. Loved it. Awesome job. Sorry I didn't tweet you sooner. I'm in the writing cave and only supposed to be let out for good behavior. Seriously, I've had my phone switched off for the three days.

Is that your new cover art, Hilary? Wow! This writing business gets in the way of all the fun stuff.

Hugs and boos and yays all around!

Btw: I got my deal between Thanksgiving and Christmas last year, so editors are definitely out and about at those times. Can't believe it's been a year.

Back to the cave.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ...
Hillary! *Cover-swoon*! Yay! So, so happy-proud-happy-speznas-splashing-everywhere PSYCHED for you. :D

Snappy! Grabbing your hands and jumping up and down. HUGE squee. :D

I've been missing all the juicy news, obviously. Still have to read backward to catch up.

My favorite news of the moment is NaNoWriMo. I finished on the 29th, late night. I banged out another kick-ass ms. Feels like early Xmas. : )

Also, another pro read my presently subbed ms and raved (and weeped! I'm making everyone weep, lol).

And as for the nibble. Still waiting. Could hear news any day.

Everything crossed for all of us.

Em

It appears from where I sit that you novel writers tend to work with publishers and agents who give you great advice on how to improve your work, and who respect you and your talent. I really like that.
Here are the kind of paint huffers script writers have to deal with.

LOVE that link, MarioC. And this one fits my book to a tee:

Give him a ghost

Her: I haven’t read your script yet, but I’ll give you some notes anyway.
Me: But don’t you want to—
Her: How much do you know about structure?
Me: A lot.
Her: Where’s the first act end?
Me: Around page 30…
Her: That’s good. That’s good. Does your main character have a ghost?
Me: A…
Her: Ah, see, you don’t know what a ghost is. Your hero needs something in his past, something that drives him.
Me: Well, actually he does, sort of. It’s hard to explain. If you read the—
Her: As long as you give him a ghost, it’s fine. It could have been a long lost brother, or a family secret.
Me: I get you, but it’d probably be better if you read the script to see what I mean.
Her: No, that’s ok. I know what I’m talking about. People who refuse to use my notes never get produced.

I know all about those types Mario, I used to work on TV shows.

The problem is, once a studio hits a certain size, there are excess bodies in the middle-upper management who feel like they have to contribute so they don't get fired, but really have no idea what they're talking about. So they'll give you a bunch of stupid notes just to justify their continued existence.
