Wredhead,

What's the url?

The only Natale Agency I came up with was a real estate office in Oakland, NJ.

And I didn't come up with anything for Joshua Natale at all.

I would think that an agent with "15 years' experience in NY publishing" should get some google hits if his publishing experience involved a literary agency, even as a junior agent working for somebody else.

The fact that you get, like, no hits makes me suspect he's a new guy in the Witness Protection Program. I'd be extremely leery.

Maryn, essentially distrustful

FirstWriter doesn't always vet listings carefully.

An agent with a Yahoo email address is NOT an agent with "15 years of New York publishing experience."

If they can't represent themselves effectively, they can't represent you effectively. Pass him by.

They don't vet them at all. They rely on their comments system to identify the questionable ones, but that doesn't work if the agent has no comments, as may be the case with obscure amateur agents or when a bad agent is first listed at the site.

If all you can find on an agent is a FirstWriter listing, I'd be very wary.

Thank you all. I queried Natale Agency by email and got a sizzling prompt reply requesting the first 10 chapters and a bio. I emailed back, wondering whether I should snailmail the requested items, or email them as an attachment. At the same time, I politely asked whether he had a website or blog. Maybe I'm naive but I don't see how a simple request for info can be offensive - anyway, nothing but silence from him for the past week. Maybe he's been busy selling real estate with his Uncle Frank in New Jersey (Yeah, I also stumbled upon the Natale Agency that's a realtor). All in all, I've decided this particular agency is "not for me." Again, thanks for helping a newbie.

And just to add a footnote, I come up with no representation records on Publishers Marketplace and nothing on Agentquery or Querytracker.

As of the date of this posting. Still nothing on Google.

Here are my inputs in google:
"Joshua Natale, Natale Agency," *
* = variants = P&E, PublishersMarketplace, books sold, scam, rip-offs, reviews, book reviews, RIP, swine flu...
