    [Writing Coach] Skip Press

I'm asking for information from an acquaintance at another site who suffered the ignoble experience of being booted from a screenwriters' group on Yahoo! when she dared to disagree with Mr. Press.

Some people there said my acquaintance had now lost Skip Press' invaluable mentoring, and others said my acquaintance had been freed from petty tyranny of a guy who just wishes he could write a screenplay that actually gets produced.

Rumors apparently say Skip is facing at least one defamation lawsuit and has been removed/banned from the WGA. (Hmm, there's an article by Mr. Press at the WGA site.)

My acquaintance doesn't intend to darken Mr. Press' cyber-door again, but would like to know the truth about the man and his qualifications. Anybody know anything more substantial than a rumor?

(BTW, my blessing if a mod decides to move this to the screenwriters' board--I debated with myself which was the more appropriate place.)

Maryn, who didn't know what her acquaintance thought she did but knew where to ask

Maryn, if no one knowledgeable responds, you could try the Done Deal board at http://p068.ezboard.com/bdonedeal.

I can't speak for how many screenplays he has had produced but he sold quite a few. He also had 22 books published, several of which are considered required reading for aspiring screenwriters. I gather he also has some sort of online college course and does ghost writing. He might be a real jerk but he appears to be a pretty experienced jerk.
