I thought I'd supplement this thread by listing UK agents and publishers. As there are not many seperate threads about these, I'm simply going to list their websites, as well as any other relevant threads about them. I'm going to add to this list slowly, a few at a time, starting with the biggest and/or the ones I know best.

OK, let's start with UK Agents, and first the Big Five; these are conglomerates with several agents (though WMA only has two lit. agents), and their own media departments.

More UK agents. If I can't find their website I post their page from The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook.

Thanks, Aruna! Couldja alphabetize, though? It's an OCD thing. :)

Anyway, how's the Index working for folks? I'm toying with the idea of making a separate Index for the magazines and freelance stuff. Yes? No? Maybe?

Now that we're stable again (the server, at least), I've caught up on updating. It's also time for my semi-monthly Fishing for Feedback.

Comments? Suggestions? Chocolate?

I've fleshed out the intro to highlight two Very Important Threads and the search tips. As always, feel free to make suggestions and alert me to errors.

As a trained researcher, features writer and frequent user of the macro and micro (within forum) search functions, what you have done is simply fantastico!! This is a truly fine example of the mating of the gods of intellect and sex (metaphorical, that is)!!

But, you know what is missing? and that might save space and time?

i) some way to condense or abbreviate the index herewithin. Hmmm... perhaps alphabetically (a - c or a-g, h- p or some such) which is easily understood;

ii) a master index - an index of all forum indexes (?) er...indices. Any cross-referencing is of course welcome...perhaps by alphabet and subject sub-categories (think you mentioned this earlier);

iii) standardisation in the form the forum indices take, and these to be reflected in the master index.

Just a few thoughts...

Hi, ATP, thanks for dropping in!

Alas, I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting. Are you asking for separate threads for each category to reduce scrolling? I'd hoped I addressed that by putting direct links in the intro post, but if that's problematic, we can explore breaking them out. I've been hesitatant to do so because they'd float apart. Please, share your thoughts. :)

Since you asked...

I would recommend the following.Note that I am going into page layout as well.

INDEX TO AGENTS, PUBLISHERS, AND OTHERS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MODERATOR COMMENTS or POINTS TO REMEMBER

This Index contains five main sections: Introduction, Agents & Agencies, Publishers & Online Markets, Other Services, Everything Else.

You are strongly recommended to read the Introduction two or more times.Really. Understanding what is written here will keep you out of the hands of scammers and help you bypass the slush pile. The extra time spent now will save you much trouble later.

This Index is NOT all-inclusive.
Also check out Preditors &Editors http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors and
the Done Deal board over at Script Saleshttp://messageboard.donedealpro.com/boards/index.php

Threads. If you can't find a relevant thread, post your question in a NEW thread (link is on the main Bewares page), not here in the Index. Please include what info you already have, like a website, so folks can give you a quick and accurate answer.

Many threads contain multiple subjects. If a thread isn't named or doesn't start with what you're looking for, keep reading cuz it's in there somewhere (and you might even learn something by accident ).

Tips on searching. To search, use “Search This Thread” at the top of this post, or “Search” at the top of the page (Advanced Search tends to work better). You can also use the "Find (on This Page)" function of your browser. (Ctrl-F for IE.)

Enjoy!

INTRODUCTION
How Real Publishing Works [clicking this will take you to the relevant link – no need for the given link]
Everything you wanted to know about literary agents... [as with the above]

AGENTS and AGENCIES [folder]
Listed alphabetically by agency (or agent's first name if not affiliated with an agency).

[Post no. 2 is put into this folder, and the contents grouped into sub-folders according to alphabet eg. A-G, F-H, I-M… Each name that is listed is highlighted in blue, and pressing the name will take you to the relevant thread/s]

PUBLISHERS and ONLINE MARKETS [folder]
Book, magazine, and electronic publishers.

[Posts no. 3, 24 and 25 are put into this folder, and the contents grouped into sub-folders according to alphabet eg. A-G, F-H, I-M… Each name that is listed is highlighted in blue, and pressing the name will take you to the relevant thread/s]

OTHER SERVICES[folder]
Editing, publicity, freelance/content sites, etc.

[Post no. 4 is put into this folder, and the contents grouped into sub-folders according to alphabet eg. A-G, F-H, I-M… Each name that is listed is highlighted in blue, and pressing the name will take you to the relevant thread/s]

EVERYTHING ELSE [folder]

"How to..." section on avoiding scams, finding agents and publishers, what to do once you found one, etc., etc.

[Post no. 5 is put into this folder, and the contents grouped into sub-folders according to alphabet eg. A-G, F-H, I-M… Each name that is listed is highlighted in blue, and pressing the name will take you to the relevant thread/s]

Cao, did something go wrong with the Agents list? It ends in the Ps, and the last link shown is incomplete.

ATP, those are good suggestions. Alas, I don't think vBulletin can dance like that. :) But I'll look into what our options are, thanks!

Aconite, I fear Victoria was the last to edit it. If she can't recover it, I've got a back-up from a couple months ago I can reload and update.

ETA: I'm gonna go ahead and re-load the agent list. Beware of dislodged dust bunnies. :D

w00t, we're back!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank the many kind, generous, and dedicated souls who harvested the cache for B&BC. Thankfully, we didn't need it to rebuild from scratch, but your tedious work is Most Appreciated nonetheless. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I just want to take this opportunity to THANK CaoPaux for her timely update of this thread. Google was able to cache nearly every thread on the B&BC site because it followed the links on the updated post. Give that lady a rep point, everyone!

Hear here! The Index made it very easy to track down cached threads and preserve data against worst coming to worst. CaoPaux r0xx0rs.

To whom it may concern: I've retrieved what I could find readily. As far as I can tell, we've lost threads created after 6/23ish, and most posts from then on as well.

Feel free to round up any stragglers. I'm going to bed.

To do my part in the rescue efforts, I'll see what I can retrieve of NEPAT from Google cache. There's a LOT of pages there that need saving. I don't even know how many extra pages the cache has.

And now for a moment of d'oh!

If you've (ever) emailed me via my profile and not received a response, it was purged without me seeing it. Fixed now (I hope). :Hammer:

I apologize for any inconvenience and/or feelings of neglect.

So are all these reps ones we should be on the look out for as far as scammers? And a lot of these come from Inktip.com right?

Are you asking if everyone listed in the Index is a scammer? No, not at all. It is simply a list of the people and companies that folks have asked about here on AW.

FilmNoir3k,

"Reps" are points you give to others here on AW if you think they've contributed something you've found helpful or worthwhile.

You'll see 3 "thingies" in the lower left of your post: a light (green if you're currently on the board), reputation points (looks like a scale), and offensive posts (the exclamation point). If you click on the one in the middle, you'll be taken to a screen for that particular where you can tell that person why you're sending them a rep point.

Question...

I need to know which agents are actively looking for young adult fantasy novels?

This list is amazing, but I have no clue which ones to try.

HELP! J

If you can't lay hands on a copy of Writers' Market or Jeff Herman's Guide, sites like http://www.agentquery.com/ allow you to search by interest, genre, etc.

Be sure to cross-reference any agent (or publisher) you're thinking of querying with the list here, at Preditors & Editors, and with Writer Beware.

Best of luck!
