Sea Wolf by Jack London.

First time reading it and it's fantastic. Captain Wolf Larsen has got to be one of the most interesting characters I've ever read.

It's better than I expected so far.

I'm reading Cold Fire by Dean Koontz one of his earlier books. I've read it before but forgot how good it is.

Just started Wild Fire by Nelson DeMille a couple days ago. I'm about 100 pages in... It's pretty good. I love books that are very character focused, and this seems to be a pretty good one so far.

I was in B&N yesterday and bought Time Travellers Never Die by Jack McDevitt. I've heard some good things about this one. Anyone here read it? I'll start it as soon as I finish Cold Fire.

Just finished "The death maze" by Ariana Franklin, an excellent fast-moving whodunnit set in Medieval England under Henry II, and am now reading "By Grand Central Station I l sat down and wept" by Elizabeth Smart, a work of poetic prose.

Been trying to wade through King's Dreamcatcher for almost a month now, and not getting very far. I usually like his stuff, and even the parts I've managed to read do have some excellent writing, on the whole it's boring me silly.

Among others, Karen Cantwell, Take the Monkeys and Run. Odd but entertaining. Mystery-suspense -- intrepid amateur female sleuth and a host of subplots and complications. And yes, monkeys. Ninety-nine cent download to my Kindle -- figured there was not much to lose there.

The Flock by James Robert Smith. Reminds me a lot of Michael Crichton and in fact it references Jurassic Park several times. The writing's not as technical/science-based but it's a very Crichton-esque plot. Only with near-sentient terror birds instead of raptors.

Thanks! I picked this up. Found the writing to be uneven but it was an entertaining read.

ETA: ResearchGuy--too irresistible to pass up. I just downloaded Take the Monkeys and Run for nook (again, 99 cents).

I love this thread. Allows me to be lazy. :)

Just finished Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia. Sequel to her Beautiful Creatures.
Both interesting.
The cat's lying across the keyboard trying to get my attention. Gotta go.

Last night I finished my second read-through of Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, and a couple minutes ago I cracked open Richard Russo's Empire Falls.

(For class I'm going to begin Charles Chesnutt's The Marrow of Tradition.)

I just started The Subversive Copy Editor (downloaded to Kindle). I also am finishing (in trade paperback) Ehrman's Peter, Paul, and Mary Magdalene. A few others are in some state of partial reading.

I'm currently reading (again) The Forest for the Trees by Betsy Lerner.
Great book for writers about the publishing industry.
Inside look at what editors want and what writers should expect.
I've learned a lot!

House of Leaves. Liking very much so far. The Christian Myth, by Burton L. Mack. He seems to make a lot of leaps and assumptions (can he really be so sure about the Q document?) but he is really challenging.

Simon Scarrow - Fire and Sword (very good!)

C.C. Humphreys - Vlad, The Last Confession (not too impressive.)
