Emmanuelle Alspaugh requested a partial from me, way back when. I received an offer before she had a chance to get to it, but she was quite pleasant in my correspondence. From Googling, she was a Random House associate editor and edited Fodor guides.

Here's the Wendy Sherman link: http://www.wsherman.com/default.htm

Wendy Sherman is my agent. She's tops, and the agency has a very esteemed reputation. Emmanuelle joined the agency earlier this year. While I can't attest to her reputation personally, I will say that I'm certain she was carefully chosen to join after Tracy Brown left to start his own agency.

Emmanuelle is my agent, and I can recommend her without reservation. If anyone has an offer of representation from her and would like to hear of my personal experiences (read--would like to hear me gush :D ) feel free to send me a PM.

Xiaotien and Michelle--Fingers crossed for you on those partials with Michelle Brower!

I was just about to equery them, but I just checked their website and they no longer take e-mail queries. :(

My printer is acting up at the moment, but I will add them to the list for when I do snail mail queries next week!

I haven't worked with Michelle, but Wendy and I were in discussions for a while. She was fast, kind, and honest. She's a straight shooter with all that brings. I couldn't ask for better traits in an agent.

Sadly, my piece was too literary for her contacts, but she's got my recommendation. She also reps a good friend of mine and he's been really pleased with her representation.

Good luck Xiaotien and Michelle--my fingers are crossed!

maui, i didn't abide by their website. =X

i saw michelle brower's email listed on agentquery
without any indication she didn't accept email queries.
then i saw people here equreying her so i did the same.

i can't say it's the same for every agent in their
agency, but that's how i went about it.

thanks for the good wishes finewriting!

I'm sorry. That stings, I know.

That said, don't take the invitation lightly. If she said it, she meant it.

Fast and super nice response from Emmanuelle. Five day response to equery requesting first fifty pages. Twenty-four hour response with a rejection.

5 day rejection to my query, but it was nice! And if I am going to be rejected, I would rather know sooner than later so I appreciated her quick response.

referral

I came cross this website by accident when researching Sherman & Associates, after choosing this agency to query (re: my first novel) based on a professional referral. I was impressed with it's list of clients, and felt we were a good match, if they feel they can market my work, of course. One of their newest client's first publication, "Souvenir," was great and somewhat akin to my book, giving me more encouragement. (I think the author posted here earlier.)

Anyway, it was good to read so many positive comments about the agents and their professionalism.

Good luck to all, whether querying or selling your book.
