Last movie I saw was Breaking Dawn 2. So much better than the book. End was still cheesy but I liked the last shot.

As Amazing Spiderman. How could they ruin an icon so badly? This movie was god-awful. Peter was so stereotypical pretty boy and massively annoying. Graphics for Lizard were a joke.

Made-for-Chiller movie YellowBrickRoad. I'd only seen it in pieces before; tonight I saw it all the way through.

I awear on L Frank Baum's grave, this movie is pretty good.

It ramped up the creepy factor slowly and effectively. Sure, it had some typical elements (murder, gore, girl in a tank top) and stock characters. It borrowed from The Shining and Blair Witch (but no shakycam, hooray!). It didn't explain too much. It was two and a half hours long, so perhaps that extra half-hour allowed the writers to develop the characters and plot that tiny bit more.

I'm alone in the house at the moment. I was knitting while watching. Yet at the end of the final scene, because I watched this from start to finish, I turned on an extra light and put something light and mindless on the TV. Yes, I'm still creeped out.

It takes a Herculean effort to creep me out now.

I recommend this movie.

Had to admit I hurled slightly at the mention of Breaking Dawn and did it again when I typed the name. :)D)

As for the reboot of Spidey, I wouldn't call Andrew Garfield a "stereotypical pretty boy" at all. He's actually rather average to odd-looking--too skinny--but he caught the dweeby, angsty side of PP quite well. Agree on the Lizard. It looked like someone stuck a mask on him instead of doing a cred CGI job.

Whatever, I prefer the original, mainly due to the freshness it had at the time and the camerawork plus the epic music--final shot in Spiderman 1 was cliched, sorta cheesy, and altogether perfect and satisfying.

Rebooted Spiderman version should be out next year from what I heard and maybe Mary Jane Cro...er, Watson, will be in it. I did like the build up of the relationship between Peter and Gwen in this version. Acting was very good, especially from the supporting players (Sheen, Field, and Leary).

Secret Sunday. I'm still not quite in sync with Thai horror. It was good: high production values, good acting, good horror bits throughout. Much better than anything on Chiller or SyFy. The gap is in my head. I have a few more Thai horror films queues up, so we'll see.

Not sure if we discussed this one but did you see Dorm? I thought it was quite wonderful. The main kid in it was just wonderful It's a bit slow moving but I'm finding I actually really like that quality in many of the foreign horror films.

Ditto writeontime. Skyfall i watched, in a theater, just last night, and it is magnificent. First movie I've watched in a commercial theater in over two years. Absolutely worth the price, and I recommend it to everybody. No spoilers, but Javier Bardem is probably the best Bond villain ever. It's a performance that rivals his deserved Oscar-winner in No Country for Old Men.

Watched Cabin in the woods recently. Really entertaining, especially if you indulged in plenty of clicheed horror movies during the 80's.

Savages - Really Good. Oliver Stone's newest drug war epic. John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson), and Green Lantern's Girlfriend (Blake Lively) are indi-pot growers in SoCal battling the Mexican cartel full of Salma Hayak and Benicio Del Toro. Great acting.

I saw "Sinister" with my visiting niece and her roommate. It was okay (except for the ending), but it seemed to rely on noises and jump scares. I really wasn't scared during the thing.

Killer Joe directed by William Friedkin. I'm a fan of Friedkin's movies but it took me some time to convince myself that I should really watch Friedkin's latest. Why? Because when I heard Matthew McConaughey was in it I gave it the wide berth, only because I'm no fan of those romcoms McConaughey has been starring in lately. Shame on me. Killer Joe makes for a fantastic viewing, is based on a well-written script with dialogue that makes me green with envy.

I'm off to hunt down a copy of Tracy Letts' 1993 play of the same title, which was adapted for the Friedkin movie.

Oh, and I re-watched No Country for Old Men. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this movie. I love it. Love the book too.

blacbird is spot-on: Javier Bardem turns in a marvellous performance in both No Country for Old Men and Skyfall. He's at his villainous best in both these films.

Recently watched Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I'm embarrassed to say I found it totally enjoyable.

Skyfall - James Bond does James Bond stuff. I liked it just fine, but I'm not as crazy fond of it as a lot of the critics were. I'd put it behind QoS in the Daniel Craig hierarchy, and waaaay behind Casino Royale. Not saying it was bad, not at all, but it just didn't come together for me. YMMV.

Sound of My Voice - Investigative journalists join the inner circle of a cult leader who claims to be from the future. It probably cost about a buck fifty to produce, but the script and performances were strong. I definitely feel like I got my rental's worth. It was from the same clique who brought us Another Earth a while back.

Ditto on this. Watched it last night and it was gooood! Well worth the time spent and very unsettling. Who cares about the budget. Great idea and great acting!

They lost me with the ripping off the leg (oh, spoiler alert! Not...). Completely cheesy and not even necessary. If they had left that out I would have been a fan of this movie, but they didn't, so I'm not.

Breaking Dawn part 2. My husband and I really enjoyed it. I was not expecting it to be done as well it was and have to say that overall, the BD movies were way better than the book (which I actually hated). There was a very very nice surprise at the end that I didn't see coming. Anyone who read the book will know what I'm talking about. I'm going to see it again with my friend on Wednesday and I'm actually looking forward to seeing it again.

Watched The Ides of March. Great cast. A movie about two Democratic candidates running for president but really more focused on the men running their campaigns. Good movie; wanted to take a shower afterwards. Politics = dirty, dirty.

Watched The Fighter last night. God, is there anything that Christian Bale can't do? Highly recommend this film. If you liked The Cinderella Man you'll like this.

Just finished watching Paper Man with Jeff Daniels. Solid performances and lots of laughs. Also quite a tear jerker. It is a bit confusing in the beginning but works itself out. Definitely worth watching.
