A Woman, A Part. Slow paced but not at all boring. Maggie Siff, first time I've ever watched her, thought she was great. Written and directed by Elisabeth Subrin.

Dragon Blade (2015)

It starts out with the claim, "based on real events." Those real events can only have been that both China and Rome did exist in the year 50.

Romans take a left turn at Albuquerque and wind up in China. It's a rather formulaic Jackie Chan movie that is hilarious for its utter disregard for history, military technology, linguistics, physics, biology, ecology...about the only thing they got right was if you drop a big enough rock on someone they can get squished.

I'm pretty sure I saw a guy eating a taco

GerogeK, we sat through that one because we're Jackie Chan fans. The only reasons we could envision for its existence were a) someone was paying off a major favor and/or b) the stars had unexpected debts.

The Specialist - Sly and Sharon Stone, James Wood, Rod Steiger, always great, and Eric Roberts plays a good bad guy.

Dunkirk.

I'm a sucker for a well-done historical flick and I've always loooooved the real story of the Dunkirk evacuation. The cinematography was awesome; it looked like they actually crashed planes and sunk destroyers. But, alas, it is Hollywood and there was just enough Hollywood war-flick schmaltz to leave me feeling like I'd seen something good but not great.

Latest cinema movies: The Big Sick, which I really enjoyed. Also The House, which was okay but the humor crossed the line into idiocy now and then imo.

Dunkirk - 9.5/10

A stripped-bare, relentless, intense view of war. Oh wow, did I just watch an Oscar-winning movie?

Dunkirk. I thought it was outstanding, and frustrating in that it didn't adhere to very many modern cinematic rules. There is no real main character; there is next to no dialogue; the villains are never seen, outside of a few airplanes. An excellent, relentless film that I felt could have delved deeper into its characters, but as a piece of pure cinema, was near-perfect.

I actually sat down to Rogue One, finally. I'll say this: I think it's by far the best Star Wars film released so far. I have many problems with the Star Wars franchise in general, but I have managed to let a lot of them go after accepting that they are not sci-fi films or even fantasy ones -- they are fairy tales. In that respect, Rogue One takes a step away from the other films and shows a more 'real' side of the conflict, the ugly truth of war, where people suffer and sacrifice everything, yet their names will not be remembered.

I.T The Ed Porter character made me VERY uncomfortable, which I think is why I enjoyed the movie. Some good, intense scenes. Love Pierce Brosnan. Can listen to that accent all day. ;) Makes me a bit more weary of tech based world.

I have also recently watched, You Get Me (descent H.S. stalker story, but not much different than SwimFan), An American Poltergeist (horrible, turned it off about 40mins in), and FINALLY saw Ex Machina. Total mind fu@k! Loved it.

Spiderman: Homecoming. It was one of the best movies in the Marvel Universe and I really enjoyed the character development and the relationships between different characters, as well as the twists which left me almost shocked with their ingeniuity.

The Girl with all the Gifts. Thought it had the most interesting premise for the future of humanity since Children of Men.

Train to Busan, on Netflix. Korean zombie movie, subtitled. Very enjoyable. The story was coherent and took a few unexpected twists. The ending was a bit predictable, but it was still emotionally satisfying. It wasn't too gory and I especially enjoyed seeing a movie that wasn't CGI'd to death. Most of the effects appeared to be done with real SFX, sets, and lots of extras.
