I don't have a website, but I do equine portraits and mention them in my blog. Would that do? Or is it just an awareness thingy?

Founder's a real bitch. Nasty, nasty.

Perhaps there are a couple more things we should add to the "Warfare" section. The first is an article on early medieval caavalry warfare by Bernard Bachrach:

http://www.deremilitari.org/resources/articles/bachrach3.htm

(He overestimates the size of early medieval warhorses by a considerable margin, but the rest of the research is sound.)

And then there's Matthew Bennett's article on the military aspects of the Regle du Temple (the Knights Templars' monastic constitution):

http://www.deremilitari.org/resources/articles/bennett1.htm

Third is great article on Byzantine cavalry tactics in the 10th and 11th centuries:

http://www.deremilitari.org/resources/pdfs/dennis1.pdf

Fourth is a treatise on the use of mounted infantry in medieval English warfare:

http://www.deremilitari.org/resources/pdfs/morris.pdf

And, last but not least, one dealing with the usefulness of stirrups in the charge. It posits that the stirrup is not necessary for mounted shock action but provides the rider with better control over the horse's gait:

http://www.deremilitari.org/resources/pdfs/gillmor2.pdf

I'm having a fun time reading these links. Both the ones that cover what I know and those that cover something I didn't.

Cheers,
Christina

Don't worry about it, Christina. Threads fade for a while, then return. If you look at the post dates in the "Horse Sense" thread, you'll see some gaps. Usually someone bumps it back up to the top with new questions.

I don't have any other individual links to contribute, but there are several links in the "Horse Sense" thread which might still be good:

http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25643

That thread also contains a link to an older AW thread about horses which might have more information.

Horse magazines (and ezines)

Greetings :hi:

I am writing an eye-opening equine article (I might develop it into a series of articles). I have several sites and magazines I will market to, but the subject matter is so life-changing that I've decided to compile as many possible outlets as I can. I appreciate the links in this thread and I thank you. Does anyone else have any knowledge of additional sources I might tap? I welcome ideas and links. You can write to me here: [email protected]

I will thank you in advance for your time; I know it's valuable.

Samantha... the Samster

I won't add it to the official list, but someone here suggested the howrse game (google it) to get an idea of what is involved in keeping horses *Grin*

Horses? They keep your boots dirty and your wallet open.

I have a magnet on my fridge: "I used to have money; now I have horses."

Fugly Horse of the Day. A very traumatizing but informative blog. Check it out if you need to see the difference between a good horse and a poorly-bred nag. Also talks about horse abuse, kill buyers, and stupid horse owners.

I have an ex-racehorse and know a great deal about racing, ex-racehorses, injury, etc if anyone ever needs help with that :) I do dressage with my OTTB (Off the Track Thoroughbred-which are abbreviated TB) and I did eventing with my Appendix QH mare.

Just dusting this old thread off.

We've had a lot of endurance type questions lately. Anyone got any good links? Common illnesses they get, conditioning them, etc.
