Ok everyone I have to know.
I got an offer(lucrative) from a company in Bejing.
Possibly to translate and to find publishing in Asia.
The property is a poster " The Musical History Map" and "Opera History Map"
What is the slippery slope I must negotiate?
Please do not offer the obvious. I have all of those written down already.
I am asking for the experiences of those of you who are already in China or have had dealing with Chinese Literary Agency personnel.

And no you cant have a cut!!!

Many thanks in advance

also google the company name, and look around on web forums for expats in China like beijingcommunity.com and shanghaiexpat.com, they might know more about publishers there.

PRC publishing

I don't have any literary agent experiences in the PRC to relate -- I have more info on Taiwan. Nonetheless, I have enough work/life experience there to ask: How easily can your product be ripped-off?

Copyright protection is atrocious.

I do have a contact in Beijing who might be able to offer concrete advice about a particular agency -- tell me the name of the company (here or by PM) and I'll see what I can find out. Please include the Chinese characters for the company name (or, lacking that, the street address).

OK, I know nothing about China but I gotta ask:

Are you the same Patrick J Olsen who was asking about GenCon (to the uninitiated, that's a gaming convention) on Yahoo Groups? Wasn't your business listed as Solar Power? I didn't go to GenCon (but I had considered it as I have attended SW Celebration).

I got curious and tried to Google your address on google maps and mapquest, but they are saying there is no 6103 Sailfish Dr. in Manteo NC. Plus, I can't find your business (TWG, the williams group, or TWG music posters) listed in any business directory.

I love a puzzle...please solve this for me!!

I also found your phone number listed on an ad for "STRICTLY PROFESSIONAL, LEGITIMATE NON-SEXUAL HEALING WORK" and "GIFTED COUPLE SEEKS ELDERCARE OR ESTATE CARETAKING" So what's up?

The State Department / U.S. Embassy should be able to provide some contacts as a starting point.

The State Department / U.S. Embassy should be able to provide some contacts as a starting point.

If you choose to do this -- as someone who has worked at the US Embassy Beijing -- I suggest that you specifically request help from the Commerce Department rep there, not the Econ Officer (or Public Affairs Officer, etc).

You can find contact info, etc. at the U.S. Commercial Service China website at: http://www.buyusa.gov/china/en/

China seems less uncertain now

Gclare,
I see a level of brilliance, not my own; yours certainly.
My gratitude for your kindnesses in a complex matter.
I no longer feel out of my depth or helpless in this affair.
One day I wish to help you after a fashion of your own design.

Sincerely,
PJO

Thanks....not so sure I deserve your accolades, as I am more frequently taking a thread in the wrong direction rather than putting it back on course! Good luck with China!
