As an extension on the Skinny Models thread, thought I'd post this.
The Dove Real Women campaign was an amazing success: their ad featuring women who looked like, well, like you and me, showed that you don't have to have skinny, unreal models to make a profit.

The last girl looks as if she's in a diaper.

But, bravo! Those girls could model some cute outfits. Not like those weird designs I never see on anyone those strange looking designers make. Fashion is more bizar than practical. They'll make anything and call it fashion just to get noticed. Don't get me started.

Really good video. People just don't make the connection that so much works goes into creating those photographs. They're as constructed and inorganically-created as the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

Personally, I much prefer the "girl next door" look, or the college coed look, or the "outdoorsy" look, or even the cute tomboy look, over the New York glamour model look. I think slender women are sexy, but those models are just too skinny.

And the worst look of all (not that I know anything about it) . . . the porno queen look, gobs of markup and inflated boobs. Yuck. And they can keep Pamela Anderson.

My only complaint about the photo of the six Dove women is that the one in the very center -- which is where the eye is naturally drawn first -- is the one model who is thin.

I remember in one of the America's Next Top Models series (a guilty pleasure of mine!) there was a plus size girl who was not only absolutely gorgeous, she had a wonderful, bubbly personality. I've forgotten her name, but she really stood out. And then one day when she realised she had no chance of winning, she just slumped inside. It's as if her beaury died. Anyone rember her name? Celia?

No kidding, I didn't even notice the one in the middle, she was washed out by the others. I had to go back and look to realize there was a blonde in the lineup.
