This review is from: Storm Rising - A Kelli Storm Novel (Kindle Edition)

In Kelli Storm, Kenneth Hoss has created a believable three dimensional character that will live long in the memory. She's not perfect. She can be impatient, bitchy and is prone to making rash decisions. But all this serves to round her up to feel like a living breathing person. She is also loyal, fiercely protective of the people she cares for, and courageous. After Detective Kelli shoots a powerful drug baron's daughter during a raid, she finds her whole life turned upside down. Following an attempt on her own life, the baron targets the people closest to her. Kelli isn't going to take that lying down. She's going to fight back the only way she knows how. There are some very suspenseful scenes in this fast moving thriller as the bad guys make repeated attempts to silence the fiesty female. A storm is brewing and Kelli intends to rain on their parade.

Hey everyone. I haven't been on AW for quite a while, but I've still been busy writing. I actually sold my first fiction piece earlier this month, which I'm pretty excited about. It wasn't a huge amount of money, but it was a big step for me and I'm really excited about it.

Philosopher, poker player, private detective...

Hello. Professional journalist tossing his hat into the fiction ring with the new ebook detective novel, Pascal’s Wager...

Destined for a brilliant career in academia, Pascal Silver instead decides to be a risk taker. Packing up his unfinished philosophy dissertation he moves to Las Vegas to pursue his dual goals of winning the World Series of Poker and the only slightly less daunting task of finding the meaning to existence.

Low on cash, Pascal is forced to take a part-time job at a private detective agency. Now, with his boss out of town, into his life walks the gorgeous Allegra LaPierre. She asks Pascal to find out who murdered her father, casino owner “Houston Phil” LaPierre.

Using his uncanny poker skills, Pascal can tell everyone involved with Houston Phil has something to hide, including his ex-stripper widow, his knucklehead son, Bruce, and his old business partner, Fat Johnny, who’s in debt to a local gangster. Complicating matters, Bruce LaPierre is suddenly found dead in his office and the number one suspect is Allegra. Though all the evidence points to his client’s guilt, Pascal falls back on the famous wager of faith put forth by his illustrious namesake. He chooses to have faith in Allegra, not just because he’s gone head over heels for her, but because it’s a good bet.

But when representatives of the Chicago mob show up and tell him to drop the case, Pascal has to take his greatest gamble yet. With Allegra’s life hanging in the balance, he’ll need to pull off the biggest bluff he’s ever attempted to get her back alive. Even if he does, he’s still left with the question “Who killed Phil?” a question only he is shrewd enough to answer.

Hey Mark--sounds like Pascal's search for the meaning of existence just might turn into how to keep existing. Maybe I need to snag a copy and find out how well he succeeds and see if he wins the Poker tourney.

I would like to read this. Is it out yet?

Edit: I should have just looked on the signature line!

I'm applying it to the cost of attending my state writers' conference later this week. I've been planning to go for months, but the finances have been a stretch since we paid a small fortune to fix the Honda last month. This will help LOADS.

Plus, I'll walk in with my head a little higher. My confidence needed a boost.
