Okay, who besides me couldn't resist clicking on the link?

They're at least halfway to 'well meaning but clueless':

Is Dynasty a publisher?Yes. We are a non-traditional publishing and marketing company. If you choose to self publish we will market your book. If you want us to be your publisher we will publish and market, this is a membership option.
Do I have to sign a contract? No. We are a membership company, which makes every member a part of the Company, with voting rights of how the Dynasty Publishing Co. operates.

A publisher with no contract. Yes, they're certainly non traditional.

And I'm finding a lot of stuff there quite confusing. This:
Get Our Free Online Brochure Here! Call 816.531.0044

and this:
Our vision is to revitalize urban core by creating opportunities for those which have unrealized and underdeveloped gifts. Allow many more opportunities for those whom cannot normally qualify through many publishing standards, by being more aggressive in finding and developing new artists and writers. ...With the support of local political, business and religious leaders, we believe the City of Kansas City will become a model for job creation, through our business. ...Our bold new vision is to create opportunities for more vendors and publishers...

Does anyone have a clue as to what this lot actually do?

PS: what in the nine moons of Neptune is a "genue"? Is it that moose-like African critter? Nope, must be something else. Somebody help me out here.

It's what you get when you don't rescue the ingenue from the train tracks in time. :/

Okay, *I* thought it was funny.

Just about the same thing posted over in Rejection and Dejection and in Paying Markets. I don't think that dscott23 is the owner of the place; he's a relative newbie who's been active in the SYW boards for a bit. I do fear, though, that He Fell Among Thieves.

I do believe that Dynasty Publishing deserves a thread here in B&BC, and we'll soon hear more -- much more -- about it. Let's take a look at dscott23's post, eh? (Nothing personal about you, dscott.)

Hey everyone!!

I just wanted everyone to know that Dynasty Publishing Inc. is now seeking new and experienced writers of all genues, the only thing they don't publish is porn! But that's ok, right???

Not all that okay. Do they publish hate literature? They should be careful ... they can go to jail for that, too.

A publisher that's seeking authors is always a red flag. Worthwhile publishers don't seek authors because their mailrooms are already filled to overflowing with manuscripts. I think by "genues" you mean "genres," right? Well, that's another red flag. Few publishers accept all genres, because they don't have the ability to market all genres. The bigger houses that have the resources tend to divide up into "lines" to handle the various genres. Please walk carefully -- I suspect landmines.

However, they don't stop at publishing, they also market your work!

All real publishers market their books. That's one of the things that divides publishers from printers. How, exactly, do they market your work? Is that specified?

To learn more about becoming the author that you dream to be, please, please click on the link below to find out more. It will only take a few minutes of your time and you won't be sorry! I know I'm not!!

Just guessing here -- they just sent you an acceptance. Congratulations! I know how excited you are.

What are your goals as a writer? How will you know when you've achieved them?
No queries are necessary either! I'm in heaven and it's not a joke!! I promise. Ok, Ok, I'll leave with my excitement! Everyone have a wonderful day!!!

I've had a wonderful day so far. I plan to continue to do so. No queries? That's nice.

Wowsers! Their prices start at $399.99 and go up from there!

My very dear friend, you've managed to get your book accepted by a vanity press. This isn't particularly hard to do, nor is it a publishing credential.

If your goals as a writer include "being read by someone you don't already know by name," keep looking. This path ends with tears.

Hey James,

I work for them, so no, it's not a vanity press. They market your work by Television, newspapers, magezines, bookstores, and online bookstore, to name a few. We are also a membership company, which is where the no contract comes in. I'm sorry that it was so poorly recieved and I'll delete all but one from the site. I did carry it a bit far and again, I'm sorry. I just wanted to get us known.

To be fair, mousing over "Get Our Free Online Brochure Here!" will get you a 3MB .pdf file. *waits for download* It's the same info on their About Us and Membership pages. I'll not comment on the formatting....

You work for them? I'm so very sorry to hear that.

They charge money to publish. That makes them a vanity press.

The "marketing" they boast of on their webpage (and that you're paying for) is useless.

Please review your choices; I fear you've gone astray.

So you work for them?

In your first spam, you represented yourself as an excited new "author." Now we find out you work for them. Just don't say anything else, ok?

If the writer pays money to the publisher, it's a vanity press.
This is from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary has a definition for vanity press:
vanity press
One entry found for vanity press.

Main Entry: vanity press
Function: noun
: a publishing house that publishes books at the author's expense -- called also vanity publisher

According to their website, we can "tune into channel 113 on Time
Warner Cable to see authors profiles!" In Kansas City, it's apparently, according to a GIS:

Catch up on what's going on around town by going to KC On Demand, channel 113, only on Time Warner Cable - Kansas City!

This channel offers free, local information about your community, schools, arts, leisure, and local businesses. KC On Demand is the only channel that is all local, all the time, any time!

Here in Houston, it's... nothing?

I just love how they put their fee on the website and called it a 'membership'.

I wonder if whoever owns the company has any idea dscott is touting them in this fashion. The front page makes it pretty clear up front that they're a vanity press.
