Hi --

I would like to pitch a proposal to a publisher of those small (size-wise) books that are usually displayed near book-store cash registers -- tightly-focused little books that are great for gift-giving and/or impulse-buying.

Does anybody know which of those publishers are particularly open to outside proposals?

Does anybody have any experience writing/pitching those types of books?

Any/all advice appreciated.

I believe Ten Speed Press and Workman Publishing are publishers of gift-y books.

Ten Speed Press.com says they want to hear from anyone with a book idea.
The link for "submissions" is at the bottom of the page.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here ...

Thanks for the info.

I'll check out Ten Speed Press, then -- unless anybody has had a bad experience with them -- speak now or forever hold your peace!

(only kidding -- speak up whenever you can)

Might be one to look into esp. their Gift listings

Running Press is one of the biggest, but their website submissions guidelines say "We also do not accept proposals for Miniature Editions™ of any kind."

American Media Mini Mags is another one, but don't know much more about them. Personally, visiting the website of Ten Speed Press, I didn't see anything much in the way of "small" books. Most of their books seemed to be of 100 pages or more, but perhaps I overlooked a section.

Come to think of it, info about this company was given previously.
American Media Mini Mags Inc.
1000 American Media Way
Boca Raton, FL 33464-1000
866-624-7264

I'm assuming the info is still valid.

a lot of those mini books are based on bigger books. ie a summary. like the little book of rules, the little book of calm etc...

I sent an email query to AMI Mini Mags. I got a response back from the managing editor saying, "Thanks for your proposal regarding Mini Mags. At this time, our schedule is predetermined for the entirety of our fiscal year and we will not be considering new topics until next April. I will keep your idea on file for the next time we are putting together a slate of new titles."

Thank you for the update -- and good luck with your proposal --

Anybody know how to contact Warner Books?

I saw a book on Amazon.com by Warner Books that suggests to me that this publishing company might be interested in my proposal, but I couldn't find any info on their website about submissions. I know that it's part of Little, Brown & Co -- or is it the other way around?

go to the library and get a publisher's directory.
Gosh, I can't believe I've become so habituated to the Internet that I've forgotten about the library!

Shame on me!
