I searched here and P&E and didn't come up with anything, anyone hear of them?

Did you google them? I got 145 hits. They've got a website, http://www.literaryagency.us/ , appear to be located in Salt Lake City, bringing into question the viability of the publishing contacts agents need. One large red flag waved at "Response times vary and can take from several months to a year if we respond at all."

Edited to add: I'm seeing no indication of any past sales, by the agency or by individual agents. That, plus Jim's comment, makes me think these people cannot place your book with a publisher.

Interesting, rugcat. I see that Mr. Chatelain is an editor of the American Review Literary Journal, which gives awards but apparently has not received any, and which has a clearly stated social agenda, which is its right. I note that his his prize client is its founder and also an editor.

I'm unfamiliar with ARLJ, but whether it's terrific or not has no bearing on his skills as an agent. In fact, it suggests that his time is not filled with agent matters on behalf of a busy and full client list.

Vivian Ducrest is/was Rothchild Literary Agency, same *.us website, listed as McGill’s contact here: http://www.mcgillcharities.com/Questions_and_Answers/

According to this: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/3/prweb357984.htm, Chatelain has been McGill’s “manager and publicist for over 12 years”.

No sign yet that McGill & Co. has translated critical acclaim into a book with a commercial publisher.

Literaryagency.us now directs to a page on McGill's site labeled "McGill Literary Agency". Chatelain is still listed as an agent, but there's no sign of Ducrest (the contact on McGill's charity page is now himself c/o Rothschild).

The books on the left of the agency page are all self-published.

I can understand the worry about not having enough publishing contacts, but there are writers everywhere who all need agents. Not everyone is on the east coast. I read ... I think it was on Writers Beware ... that it is a good idea to find an agent closer to you rather than on the opposite side of the US. Thus, for someone like me (since I am on the west coast), an agent in New York might not be feasible.

To save space, I copied and pasted instead of quoting the entire long chain.

In this Internet age, an agent's location can be less of an issue. However, regardless of whether they're in New York or New Zealand, they will need personal interaction with editors to make the sale. If they have the resources to travel to close the deal, more power to them, but having an agent within spitting distance of the publishing district saves time and expense for everyone involved.

My impression on the site http://www.bryantmcgill.com/agency/
is more like a shrine for Mr.McGill. It gives very little on the work he has done for his client(s). I mean self-promotion is okay if it helps the collective; i.e. like a mothership pushing forward and all its babies riding tail-coat. However, his side tells me that Mr.McGill seems quite diluted and unfocus.

I just received this message last night in response to a query I sent in 2011 for a book I'm no longer querying on. Bizarre:
