Hi— Does anyone have any ideas for disposing of dead matter? Do old manuscripts have any value to anyone? Thanks.

I just got rid of a very early draft of the third book in my series. It was embarrassingly bad. I shredded it.

But I'm just a genre-writing hack. Are you talking about an old manuscript of your own? Or an old manuscript by a famous author?

Very successful writers often donate all their papers--including early drafts of their works--to libraries. But unless your books have sold well and you have a certain amount of recognition in your field they're unlikely to be of value to anyone but you.

I shred mine.

I compost mine. Good for discouraging weeds. And grass. And - actually, just generally discouraging.

If its paper I recycle it. If its electric then I file a copy in the backup folder and keep it.
