I have a feeling this is actually going to help him.

The people who support him, or who supported his primary opponent, I'm generalizing, could be more the 'bandwagon/women out to get something/fake news/George Soros/trying to get Trump' people who would find this... energizing.

Probably right. How freakin depressing. I picked the wrong week to watch Handmaidens Tale.

And people are taking to Twitter to post photos of them destroying their Keurig coffeemakers, a former sponsor. Because nothing says "angry boycott" than destroying something you've already paid for. Sort of like people who complain on Bette Midler's Facebook page she's totally disrepecting 45 by speaking out against him so they're going to throw out all of the albums, CDs, DVDs, tour memorabilia, etc. they've bought over the years. Two things: 1) that they're SO SURPRISED she's such a liberal Democrat is too funny; 2) she done already done cashed that royalty check years ago, honey.

Lol, all I could think when I heard about the Keurig thing was "The next morning when they want some coffee, they're going to feel really, really stupid."

I don't see Moore withdrawing from the campaign, it doesn't fit his past record of defiance.

I do think that signed yearbook with the date and place, 12-22-77, Olde Hickory House, makes it very hard for him to continue claiming he doesn't know where the restaurant is.

It appears it was well known he was a teen chaser in his 30s, there are too many witnesses for his denials to be credible. But it's people who don't want to believe women are ever telling the truth (think all white men refusing to believe Anita Hill) combined with those taking the easy out that the accusations are politically motivated who will keep Moore's candidacy viable.

Notice Mitch McConnell publicly said he believed the women but stopped short of promoting a write-in campaign. What kind of mixed message is that? One that says, "Damn, I really want a GOP Senator but people will call me on the Bob Packwood expulsion move if I don't support the overwhelming evidence." Because this skeleton from his past might resurface:

Mother Jones, 2014: Mitch McConnell Says He Stood Up for Women in a Senate Sexual-Harassment Scandal. The Real Story Is Damning.
McConnell claims he led a 1995 investigation against a GOP senator accused of sexual misconduct. Actually, he took steps to keep it quiet.

What the Democrats need to do is support a GOP write-in candidate and Jones. Split the vote, even a little and we have a good chance of filling Sessions' seat with a Democrat.

The Hill: George Will: Doug Jones deserves to beat Roy Moore

One of the scenarios being put forth is that if Roy Moore wins the election, the Senate could actually seat him and then expel him. That hasn't been done in basically forever, but there have been I believe several senators in the past who resigned under threat of expulsion over scandals.

From the GOP point of view this would be a great thing – they could stand up for their (so called) moral principles, get rid of Moore who they don't want in the Senate the first place, and have the governor of Alabama fill the seat with – Jeff Sessions.

Then everybody's happy – the GOP, Jeff Sessions, and Donald Trump.

Until Jeff gets indicted, but I agree, this seems to be the dream scenario, and a Snidely Whiplash way of stealing yet another important position from the Democrats. McConnell would be gleeful.

I saw an analysis tonight that suggested that Sessions would not be interested in resuming his Senate seat. How true that is, anybody's guess.

But I really really really hope Moore hangs on by his fingernails and refuses to drop his campaign. The latest polls now have Jones in the lead, and certainly the Alabama Senate seat is one the Democrats never considered even remotely up for grabs until a couple of weeks ago. It would be a big blow to the GOP if Jones wins, and a big embarrassment for them if Moore wins, and just continues to be Roy Moore.

It might depend on how secure he feels his tenure as AG is. He might prefer returning to the Senate to no job at all.

I think Trump would have already got rid of him if not for the political fallout. With Sessions gone, Trump could appoint a new AG who wouldn't have to recuse himself and would then be able to oversee the Mueller investigation.

One of these days we're going to have an unusual yet heartwarming news story about a man who despite being in a powerful position never attempted to prey on women.

It's easy to forget, with so much dirt coming out on so many men, that these predators are a minority. For every Hollywood honcho who tried to leverage his power over women, there are dozens who didn't. Although admittedly, it's starting to feel like they deserve medals just for being decent human beings.

While chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Moore dissented fom the majority opinion to argue that men who raped children should be allowed to introduce evidence about the sexual histories of their child victims.

This would have included evidence that a twelve-year-old girl already had an STD when she was raped and that two fifteen year old girls were bisexual and in a relationship with each other when they were molested.

Moore also argued, while chief justice, that there was no evidence a four-year-old boy had been “forcibly” raped and that a school police officer was not “technically” an employee of the school when he had sex with a student.

He's a f***ing scumbag of the first and highest order.

Has Callista Gingrich been confirmed yet as ambassador to the Vatican? It's not too late for 45 to dump her and nominate ol' Roy, salvaging total dysfunction from this.

I've been meaning to post this:

WA Po: Undisclosed deal guaranteed Roy Moore $180,000 a year for part-time work at charity
Former Alabama judge Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, once said publicly that he did not take a “regular salary” from the small charity he founded to promote Christian values because he did not want to be a financial burden.

But privately, Moore had arranged to receive a salary of $180,000 a year for part-time work at the Foundation for Moral Law, internal charity documents show. He collected more than $1 million as president from 2007 to 2012, compensation that far surpassed what the group disclosed in its public tax filings most of those years.

When the charity couldn’t afford the full amount, Moore in 2012 was given a promissory note for back pay eventually worth $540,000 or an equal stake of the charity’s most valuable asset, a historic building in Montgomery, Ala., mortgage records show. He holds that note even now, a charity official said.

Pure sleaze, hypocrite and definitely not the devout Christian he pretends to be.

Sessions might not be interested in resuming his Senate seat, but his boss might be since he's probably pissed Jefferson Beauregard declined to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation (so far)

I wouldn't hope Moore refuses to drop out because that means the evil bastard might actually win and that would signal the Republican Party has now opened its arms to pedophiles, rapists, murderers, child pornographers, degenerates, and other human filth just so long as they say "fake news" and "drain the swamp." I don't want the Republican Party to go away. I want the Republican Party to reclaim its soul and take it back from the maggots feeding off it. Here's how every Republican Senator stands on the subject of Rotten Roy joining their ranks.

The G.O.P. used to stand for Grand Old Party. Is it about to rebrand itself as Gross Old Pedophiles? :Wha:

Apparently, people are receiving robocalls from a fake Wapo reporter named "Bernie Bernstein," claiming to offer $5000-$7000 to women who are willing to accuse Roy Moore.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...for-dirt-on-roy-moore/?utm_term=.774f689d2b46

Sadly some people who receive or hear about this call really will believe it came from the Washington Post.

That’s some Russian spy level of subtlety right there. :rolleyes

Is there any investigation as to whether it’s yet another Russian government-funded attempt to sow dissent in America?

I doubt the trolls are smart enough to intentionally smear a composer, but maybe *this* Leonard Bernstein yet another sign It's The End Of The World As We Know It? Apologies to REM but...I don't feel fine.

Here's an actual shock. Moore has apparently lost Hannity's support.
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...0e3e4b0bc648a0eb4b7?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009

The article points out that Hannity has lost a number of sponsors since he started defending Moore, so there's no reason to attribute this to any change of heart (or whichever organ) on Hannity's part.

The most interesting part of this is that Hannity has dropped the innocent until proven guilty pietism.

″For me, the judge has 24 hours,” Hannity said Tuesday night. “He must immediately and fully come up with a satisfactory explanation for your inconsistencies that I just showed. You must remove any doubt. If he can’t do that, then Judge Moore needs to get out of this race.”

<High Cynicism Mode>
Very few people even try to apply the criminal standards of guilt and innocence to everybody. It's pretty hard for people to be that even-handed. So, for most people, the claim is a tell about where their sympathies lie. And the same people will for one person say,
"innocent until proven guilty."
and for another say,
"lock her up."

Also, as this article points out. Many of the same Republican Senators who say they believe Moore's accusers, do not give the same credence to Trump's

Moore's attorney just held a press conference if you can call it that. He showed Moore's signature from 2017 without "DA". At the same time the attorney never once denies that is Moore's sig on the yearbook. He merely hands out images to reporters and grins as if he's presenting some kind of proof. He also informed the press they had hired a handwriting expert but said expert or any official opinion is also missing from the press conference.

Then there is this random website claiming the 'y' on Roy is different:

VINDICATED—IT’S FORGED: Over 12 discrepancies in Roy Moore’s alleged yearbook signature.

I'm pretty sure those two sigs look identical. That the 'y' in Moore's sig has changed in 40 years? I'm not impressed. That the attorney would not deny that is Moore's sig in the yearbook is impressive.

This. Personally, I'd find it strange (and possibly suspect) if the signature didn't have a few minor differences after 40 years. My handwriting has changed a good bit since I was in college 15 years ago, and I have no doubt it will change more with time. And the changes are exactly the sort of minor tweaks you see in the example. The overall handwriting is the same, but I've added loops on my lowercase y's and g's, started crossing my 7's, and switched from stabbed dots to little circles when writing periods or dotting i's. Tweaks added to make things clearer, or simply because I liked how it looked.

And at 70, hands themselves have changed pretty drastically. Are you going to write exactly the same after you've developed, say, arthritis or carpel tunnel?

And that's just handwriting. My actual signature is completely different from how I signed when I was younger.
