    Analog Tools Resources

This is a work in progress. I'm open to suggestions regarding resources for people who use non-digital tools (pens, especially fountain pens, paper, typewriters) to write and plan.

    Forums and Communities

    • The Fountain Pen Network
This is the largest and oldest forum for fountain pen lovers. It's moderated, so do read the FAQs and stickies. Lots of fans and experts here. They're not as female friendly as I'd like. Use a generic non-gendered name if you post.

    • Fountain Pen Geeks
This is a smaller, quieter forum, also carefully moderated.

    • InCoWriMo
This community is all about "vintage social media," aka writing letters by hand and delivering them, especially during International Correspondence Writing Month, or February. The goal is to write one a day, every day, during the month of February.

    • Postcrossing
Postcrossing is a community that allows you to send (via post) postcards and receive postcards back from random people around the world. The basic process is:
      1. Join (it's free)
      2. Request an address and a Postcard ID
      3. Mail a postcard to that address
      4. Receive a postcard from another postcrosser!
      5. Register the Postcard ID you have received
      6. Go to number 1 to receive more postcards!

    • Reddit
Reddit is a little wild and wooly; this is not a strictly moderated forum. But there are lots of useful subreddits with knowledgeable people about fountain pens, notebooks and typewriters. Read and lurk, and read the stickies before posting.

    Merchants
    • AW's Amazon Store
AW has an affiliate relationship with Amazon; we get a small percentage of items you purchase using our link.

    • Cult Pens
Cult Pens is a much loved UK retailer and stationary store, with a huge inventory of pens, pencils, refills, inks, and paper, and accessories.

    • CW Pencil Enterprises
A giant pencil inventory, emphasizing wooden body pencils.

    • Ebay
Ebay is often a great source for fountain pens, especially vintage pens, as well as notebooks and paper, including hand-made notebooks and journals. Watch out for knock-off pens of brands like Safari, coming from China. But do notice Chinese pen makers like Jin Hao; they often have pretty good pens for beginners or those who are simply curious, at bargain rates.

    • Etsy is particularly good for hand made, hand-bound, notebooks, journals, and covers. You can also find hand-made glass dip pens, and hand-turned pencils and pens with wooden bodies that use fountain pen nibs or ballpoint and roller ball.

    • The Goulet Pen Company
Goulet Pens is not only a vendor, the site offersa a wealth of information about fountain pens and inks, much of it in the form of videos. See especially their Fountain Pen 101 videos and their swab shop, which lets you compare different ink in terms of color.

    • JetPens
JetPens is a U.S. based store specializing in Japanese stationery, including gel pens, rollerball pens, fountain pens, pencils, a large variety of paper and notebooks, as well as inks, stickers, refills . . . They are also a great source for information and reviews.
