No context given because it's funnier that way:

Ugh, cynic! It was just very good cheese.

    My fave so far:

“Happy F*cking Birthday,” I mutter as I make my way down to the subway. “What a way to celebrate.”

    For Day 1:

The ghost-like woman there was familiar…not the woman herself, but her kind. She might have passed for a human, a particularly pale and skinny woman, if not for the prominent pointed ears that protruded out from her head of wispy white hair. Memories flashed in Faye’s mind of one like this pale woman—of an intense gale out of nowhere, Faye’s body slamming into the concrete of the building behind her hard enough to make her vision blur…

    11/2's best:

The average observer wouldn’t have been able to tell, just seeing her in the throne room as the guard brought him in through a side door. That was the first sign for Ash, though. This wasn’t either of their private quarters, it was the room where royal law was laid. The way she held herself completely still, hands clutched behind her back and no hint of a smile or frown was the second sign. She was too mad to show emotion. He was in serious trouble.

    “Ashley. Samir. Isidore. Karim.”

Okay, nevermind trouble. He was dead.

    Day 1:

Humidity glued the curls of her fiery orange hair to the dark skin of her cheeks and neck, while the playful gusts of wind ripped the curls free.

    Day 2:
Body hunched over the bowl, mouth dripping with bile, Malik let out a groan. “Don’t move me. As long as I stay here, exactly like this, I don’t feel nauseous.”

Day 3: My favorite character still being my favorite character

    (While hunting birds)
"My sister will tell you I can talk forever about nothing. She’s practiced in ignoring me. Ruel, bird on your right!”
    The woman didn’t even look.
    “See? Nothing."

    Day 1:
To be fair--if I have to be--I mean, he is a ghost, and I am living, but what's so great about either of those things? Life sucks and then you die.

    Day 2:
I'm sure there's some feng shui-y explanation for the chaotic set up, but that's too far beyond the occult and into froo-froo New Age Land for me.

Day 3: POV character is a ghost:

"Ooh, have you seen this one?" I ask her, shaking the banner to draw her eyes to it. "This guy sells ghost hunting gear. Do you think we should buy some? There might be some ghosts around, waiting to make your EVP equipment flicker and talk into your microphones and make things cold."

This is extremely accurate. But being a slave to a cat isn't such a bad thing.

He turned away, muttering about royalty and other people who took things that didn't belong to them.
Write the change you want to see in the world!

Writing exposition is like putting red pepper flakes on your pizza - the occasional burst adds depth and flavor, too much in a lump can burn the reader out.

Won't beat this for Day 4. Yes, there is a candle scent with this name:

"Ask her if she got monkey farts."

"Ren wants to know about monkey farts," I say seriously.

She laughs. "What? What does that even mean?"

"Blake!" Ren zooms in front of me, waving his hands.

"Very important to him, those farting monkeys," I continue. "He's talked about nothing else since we got here. It's all monkeys this and farting that. He especially wants to know what they smell like."

Not a lot of profound writing the last two days, but these are the lines I liked best.

    Day three:

I listen for the door to click shut and wait... for sleep to take me, for him to return, I'm not sure. But whatever it is I'm waiting for, it never comes.

    Day four:

I stand in the doorway for a moment and watch him sleep. I wonder how we got to this place, where he's acting like a disillusioned teenager and I've become the frustrated parent.

Not much done today, but here's the best of day 4, no context whatsoever:

Ash thought he heard the old woman squeal in delight as a plume of red exploded in the direction she went.

    Day 5:

As she pelted another burst of yellow at a child who’d hit her with green, he wondered, was this the first time she’d ever had fun? Ever experienced unbridled, unrestrained joy?
Thinking about his own childhood, under his mother’s vigilant gaze, he wondered, was it his?

Day 5...a bit of a longer passage:
When she looked back to Caitlyn, her friend was staring at salad dressings, her trembling finger pointed towards various flavours of ranch. Cait hated ranch dressing.

"I can’t help it if other people find me more lovable."

"But I am the eldest, the most favored son. You are nothing more than the puny auxiliary back up son."

"Don’t take this the wrong way but this is why you don’t have many friends."

"And why I’m going to hang out with the puny auxiliary back up son of my father this weekend at a bar."
