At least 500 people are believed to have been killed or seriously injured in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, in one of the most lethal terrorist acts anywhere in the world for many years.

The death toll from Saturday’s attack, which involved a truck packed with several hundred kilograms of military-grade and homemade explosives, stood at 239 on Sunday but is expected to rise as more bodies are dug from the rubble spread over an area hundreds of metres wide in the centre of the city. At least 300 people were injured, according to local reports.

There are so many things that need fixing in this world. What became of leadership?

It's so sad. CNN had a few seconds of coverage. I've yet to see any coverage on Fox or MSNBC. Like Darfur, these are people the world pays little attention to.

Doctors struggled to treat the huge numbers of seriously wounded victims on Sunday, while thousands of people queued to give blood in Mogadishu.
Rescue workers were still digging out injured survivors late on Sunday night. ]
Just heartbreaking.

Somalia hasn't had leadership in decades. And, given what Timothy McVeigh was able to do in Oklahoma City two decades ago, there's no reason to think this couldn't happen in any nation, including the U.S. of A. But, hey, at least we can try to force professional football players to stand for the national anthem.

How do you know? Serious question.

Last I knew much about Somalia it was a failed state, a lawless country. But from the information about this incident, it looks like they had developed at least a semblance of a government.
