If I follow up with an 'Ahoy' salutation, that's too much, right?

So, hello out there, I'm super excited to be here, specifically to meet other writers! I've finished a novel and a short story to date, and I'm ready to start looking into querying and submitting for publication (she mumbled bravely). All the work I've finished to date has been speculative (read: angels, demons, zombies--the works), but my 'other' career finds its way into my fiction and turns it steampunk from time to time. I read speculative, sci-fi, fantasy, literary, nonfic, between the lines, and into jokes (just kidding...or am I?).
