Just did a brothel tour in which the guide noted that the house's proprietor typically hosts clientele and does not provide sexual services. This brothel was unusual in that its madame did--at several hundred times the rate for her girls.

Now that tt42 asks, yeah, that's not clear.

Pimps in modern times do indeed sleep with the girls they pimp out. I understand the women either consider it a part of the cost of doing business or, especially if they're young, believe the pimp when he says he loves her, now go out and bop three more guys tonight or don't come back.

Madams are running a business. They take literally half of what the working girl charges. Security gets another quarter, and the girl ends up getting the final quarter--out of which she may have to pay for room and board if she lives in the place of business. That's why tips are so important, because she just barely breaks even on the basic charge for her services.

It does happen, yes.

At least in terms of erotic fiction, though, I would tread carefully with madams/pimps sleeping with their prostitutes. Consent becomes a tricky issue. Especially if it's viewed, as Maryn described it, as part of the cost of doing business, consent is shaky at best. The prostitute may feel -- or may be told outright -- that sex with their boss isn't optional. Even if the prostitute and madam like each other and enjoy sex with each other, it's not quite consensual if there's an undercurrent of obligation.

All of which may be perfectly fine in whatever a person is writing. Noncon, dubcon, etc., are things that exist, as are power games/imbalances, etc. It's just something to keep in mind.
