I hope this is the right forum. My daughter will be starting her teaching career soon. She needs to buy reading books for her fourth grade class. I'd like to get some recommendations for a class where the children are predominantly Somali, so any titles with Muslim or African-American main characters would be great.

I just finished reading Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor. The author is Nigerian and the novel is set in Nigeria, but two of the main characters are African American. It's been dubbed the Nigerian Harry Potter. It reads slightly younger than YA. It's got incredible world-building and reads very quickly. It would probably be suited quite well for fourth graders. The main characters are 12/13 years old. Not sure if fantasy if what she's looking for, but I hope this helps!
