The ‘Biweekly Bite’ -the horror newsletter that gives you a short, a flick, and a surprise- is announcing the ’Horror Bites Magazine.’
Our newsletter is all about finding creative people doing interesting work and throwing views at them, and the magazine will be our next step in bringing small name horror authors to the people’s attention. Im excited to say that Horror Bites Magazine is now open for submissions.

Deadline: August 15th, 2017

Fiction Guidelines

At this time the Horror Bites Magazine is open to all short, horror fiction between 1,500 and 5,000 words. Note that there are some things that we don’t publish:

  1. Nonfiction (for now).
  2. Anything to close to ‘the classics.
  3. Violence that doesn’t contribute to the story.
  4. Gore for the sake of gore.
  5. Torture porn and rape.
  6. Erotic horror.

Please submit stories via email at ’’ for consideration (we prefer .docx, .rtf, or .txt formats).

Please format your subject line as “Horror Bites Magazine: [Your Story Title Here].”

In the body of your email, please include your name (or pseudonym) and word count. If the story is under 2,000 words, please paste the text in the body of the email, otherwise please attach it as a .doc, .docx, etc. Just use your better judgement. .PDF is the only unacceptable format.

A little FAQ

$5 per story?

Righty-o. If your submission gets chosen we’ll buy you a cup of coffee or two. If that feels low, that’s because it is. Submission pay is linked to our Patreon goals though, so as the magazine grows we’ll be able to buy you more coffee and then some.

How will I get paid?

Paypal. That’s the only way we can do payments right now, and you’ll get paid once we agree on the terms of using your story.

So you’re buying the rights forever?

We’ll hold exclusivity for 90 days, as in the contract. Your story is yours and you can do whatever you want with it, just be a doll and let us be the go-to place for it for just a bit. We’re not currently buying audio rights.

Is there a contract?

Our contract follows the lead of SFWA’s Model Magazine Contract.

Where will my story be published?

Accepted stories will appear in the first three issues (October, November, and December) of the ‘Horror Bites Magazine,’ to appear on Amazon, iBooks, Gumroad, and anywhere else E-zines are sold.

Can I promote through you?

Totally. Once you have a story accepted for publication, we will ask for a 250-750 word author bio and head shot/logo for the author introduction section at the end of each issue. As this is a digital magazine, links to your own platform are allowed and encouraged.
