Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody knew of a name or technical term for a story where there is a father (or fatherly figure) who protects a precocious or otherwise special child character from some external threat? Something along the lines of Cormack McCarthy's The Road, films like Logan or Midnight Special, or games like The Last of Us and the Walking Dead Telltale series?

If so, do you know of any other books that fall into this category? They can be from any genre (i.e. how Midnight Special is sci-fi, while Walking Dead is horror), it's more the relationship that I'm interested in.

Thanks!

I don't know that there's a name for that plot, but I think Firestarter, by Stephen King, fits.

Have you checked TV Tropes for such a term? It's sounding to me like a Papa Wolf teamed with the all-too-familiar Chosen One character.

(Warning: tvtropes.com is a black hole that will suck you in and keep you there until rescued by the urgent need to pee.)
