Book signing, in general

I'm signing a lot of books lately, and I have no real clue if there's a standard expectation for these things. Should I try to write varied comments, or just some standard blurb? Do I sign my name or print it? If I sign, should it be a legible signature? My default sig is not even close to legible. Should I try to personalize signing? Put the person's name in?

etc. Lots of etc. Any advice, personal experiences appreciated.

Sign the book however you like. It's your book!

I strongly suggest, though, having a different signature for book signings than the one you use for security--on the backs of your credit cards, and so on. It's an obvious precaution.

It's usual to sign the book on the title page. If you're signing for one person it's nice to personalise it: if you're signing a lot of books, just your signature will be fine.

I usually ask if they just want me to sign it or sign it to them. I usually have a different little thing I add just above my signature depending on the book.

In my former life in comics, most people just wanted you to sign it. Easier to sell on E-Bay later. *grin*
