Four days ago I canned rhubarb jam.

28 Hours afterwards, a jar popped and the lid came up.

Just now, about 4 days later, another seal popped.

I boiled them in a hot water bath, and they sealed just fine.

Any idea what I did wrong?

ETA: I'm seeing that it's only happening on the jars where the lids came with them. They were decorated. I'm wondering if those jar seals were maybe too old or defective?

I might just re-do that batch and re-seal them.

Did you wipe the rims with a cloth before sealing? If there's spillage, it can stop seals working. Or - might there be chips in the jar rims? If it's only two jars, I'd keep one in the fridge, and freeze the contents of the other in the ice tray. Just the right size to thaw out and serve with scones and cream :)

Will re-boiling make the set go to concrete? I'd just check that first.

I've never used pectin. Good luck with it :)

Did you simmer the lids by themselves first? That softens them and makes them seal better

Back when I used to can with my mother we left the lids in the simmering water. Only took them out one at a time to put on the jar and screw on the ring. If you took them all out at once some of them might have dried out again before you got to them.

Not where you last saw me.
I'm sorry I'm late to the thread, Ted; I haven't begun my canning yet this year. There are a couple of things I don't see addressed yet: Did you leave enough head space between the product and the top of the jar to allow sufficient vacuum to form a tight seal? (It sounded like seals formed, but didn't hold.) And, are you sure you didn't over-tighten the rings before the seal popped? (Same thought.)

Best of luck on the new batch!
