Well, well, well, it's introduction time. I'm RebeccaEChapman and I am - shock horror - writing a novel that I've been sitting on for about a year now. I finally bit the bullet on May 3rd and, seventeen days later, here I am. I just hit 30k words and realised if I'm running out of Sarah Dennard blog posts about writing to read, so I took some advice and headed over here to AW to satisfy that writing-bug-ness. Because apparently every minute that I'm not writing or thinking about this novel, I'm still not done.
I guess what I'm writing is a New Adult Fantasy? The main characters are all in their early twenties and I've got magical cookie images dancing through my mind constantly about how violent and brutal the story will be. Obviously at the minute it's just 30k words of slightly dark world building rubbish... but I've adopted a very relaxed attitude about First Drafts. First Drafts are - and should - suck: they'll get better afterwards.
So that's where I'm at. And I guess in the long run I'm going to be using this place to hunt down beta readers and critique partners but with my WIP being in its current state I'm not looking to send it to anyone - but I AM very much looking for writing buddies. People to talk to about writing, bounce ideas off of and just generally relate to this sudden huge part of my life that my IRL friends - as lovely as they are - unfortunately do not understand.
So, that's me. Probably didn't write about what I should have written about. (A similar problem with my WIP, incidentally.)
Right. So. awkward goodbye now?
... BYE.
EDIT: ALSO for any lovely people reading, I was wondering if you might kick off my time here at AW by giving me some reading recommendations. I'm interested in works like both of Sarah J Maas' TOG and ACOTAR series and also recently read Susan Dennard's 'Truthwitch' which I DEVOURED (but I've only read the first book in the series so please, no spoilers!) - if you have any quality recommendations in a similar vein to these lovely writer's works, they would most definitely be appreciated.
