Today, it's passionfruit. Suggestions? I'm getting about half a dozen each day, and really don't know what to do with them other than add to fruit pies or cheesecake topping.

(Next month, I'll probably revive this thread and ask about what to do with a glut of figs.)

Add them to smoothies & yogurt

Google for "passionfruit recipes" and find lots of ideas (not all dessert-like)

Cut them up and freeze them, so you'll have a supply later in the year.

My first thought was granita. You could probably do a cold soup, passionfruit/ginger or something. Could make jam, cocktails, tarts... do like a passionfruit quickbread with a glaze....savoury you could use some in a spicy fruit curry over rice... I dunno, gimmie some. :)

hi
I always have loads of passion-fruit . The vines run wild in my garden . I like to see the all the orange fruit hanging everywhere, slowly disappearing as the birds eat them . You can dry the figs

Pork with figs and port. Figs with goat cheese and honey. Figs with ricotta, herbs & honey on toast. Figs and prosciutto. Fig compote. Figs on grilled cheese. Figs are a staple of Italian home cooking, so lots of yummy things to do with fresh figs!

I still have passionfruit frozen from last year, so clearly I need to get more creative. Thanks for the ideas! I never thought of using them in a savoury curry.

I make passionfruit ice cream or frozen yogurt, plenty of it and freeze that (I strain out the seeds), ditto when mango is in season. Especially appreciated during winter, a taste of summer.

Figs, yum-yum -- I never get enough figs to try more and different recipes. Stuffed figs, dried figs, fig chutney, fig puree for freezing.

Is a dehydrator needed to dry figs, or is there some other way to do it?

Today I will try baking a passionfruit and apple shortcake. Because I also have lots of apples :D

Passionfruit/apple butter is also a thing you might make and put up.

You can dry fruit (or veg, hence sun-dried tomatoes, raisins...) in a slow oven, or outside if it's sunny and dry and reasonably warm where you are.

Nah, it's just that the flower (pre fruit) is so glorious and OTT that it suggests passion.

Reporting in: apples and passionfruit, poached briefly with honey (or sugar, I suppose, but I keep bees so honey is easier), then sandwiched between two layers of buttery pastry (butter, flour, sugar, and baking powder, beaten to a soft dough, rolled out into two layers) and baked, is....GLORIOUS. About five large apples and six passionfruit, honey depending on the tartness of the apples, for an eight inch sized springform pan.

Yay for autumn!

Figs: still just eating them fresh. Will work on more glamorous presentations in the weeks to come. Thanks for the suggestions! Esp if I can find mascarpone on sale.

Next question: How is it possible for a pepper plant to produce two red peppers, on the same branch, one of which tastes simply of capsicum/green pepper (pleasant, but no heat) and the other enough to blister one's lips (no exagg) with just a simple touch of finger to mouth? My garden is seriously deranged. Lord help my chilli con carne tonight. I tried to pick out all the diced red pepper before I added the onion etc mix, once I realised what was happening, but I fear even the tiniest piece will enough to turn the entire batch into a head-blowing disaster.

I don't like it by itself. Too tart and...dunno, something. Intense, maybe.

But it's great with other stuff.

Oh well now no - it's alright. It was a shock, that's all. Just a bit of a shock.

Just give me a moment.
