Yep! Come join us Lil! We'll explain everything.

Definitely no Collingwood. Yuck. I recommend the West Coast Eagles. :D

Or if you like living on the edge - of your seat, then the nearest cliff - Richmond is perfect.

You also have to be prepared to buy a new microwave each year (in which to Anger-Nuke[SUP]TM[/SUP] your membership).

But rest assured that when we do start winning again at the end of the season Richmond admin staff are accustomed to members requesting a new card to replace their 'lost' one.

The excitement if/when Richmond manages to win the flag will rival (if not surpass) that of the Doggies' in 2016. At least everyone would enjoy singing the theme song.

Yellow and black!

I went to the 1980 Grand Final. Ahh such sweet memories. Premiership cup and thumping Collingwood to get it :D.

Crikey that's 37 years ago!

I went to the 2005 GF (vs Sydney). Heartbreaking loss. So heartbreaking, in fact, when Mr. BF offered to take my to the 2006 GF, I refused.

Of course we won that one. But I was probably better stressing at home than in public! (Damn one point win almost killed me).

For the love all that is good, don't pick collingwood.

:hi:

Glad we're all in agreement here. :D

Who's your team, Sian?

You'd love Leo Barry then.

Mr. BF knows to change the channel whenever that clip comes on. He's well aware of my (major) issue with that mark. Yes, it was a good mark. But Ashley Sampi was being bear-hugged by one of the Sydney players to stop him flying for it.

Should have been a free kick for holding. (Quite a number of commentators have pointed this out since). It's just such a blatant free kick. Would've had a shot for goal too. :e2cry:

I hadn't heard anything about the Sampi hold but the picture tells the story.

Hope that photo isn't in your wallet BF. Remember the happy times. :)

So, ajaye (and of course any other interested Australians and non-Aussie but interested parties :D) should we have weekly tips for each match?

This week's match-ups (starting tomorrow night with ajaye's Tigers):

Richmond vs Collingwood
Western Bulldogs vs Sydney
Hawthorn vs Adelaide
GWS vs Gold Coast
Brisbane vs Essendon
West Coast vs St Kilda
Geelong vs North Melbourne
Melbourne vs Carlton
Port Adelaide vs Fremantle

Some of those should be absolute crackers.

Hell yes! Do we have to write them in invisible ink? :D

Tempting. I'm just gonna bold my tips below:

Richmond vs Collingwood
Western Bulldogs vs Sydney
Hawthorn vs Adelaide
GWS vs Gold Coast
Brisbane vs Essendon
West Coast vs St Kilda
Geelong vs North Melbourne
Melbourne vs Carlton
Port Adelaide vs Fremantle

I've gone a bold (ha!) number of away wins/upsets this week. It's so hard to tell true form vs false dawn this early in the season (see: Brisbane, Essendon, Hawthorn etc).

I'd say I tipped Geelong just for blacbird, but I simply rate them as a far better team than North. :)

Oooh BF's gone for Sydney eh?!!!

Here's mine. I think I've gone all faves, which isn't like me at all. I always pick Richmond, which can be a handicap :) . My iffiest is Melb v Carlton, Melbourne is good at crash 'n burning after a good win. I might have picked the Saints (gasp! don't shoot me)
if it had been played in Melbourne - other half barracks for them so I have a soft spot.

Richmond vs Collingwood please don't lose this one boys

Western Bulldogs vs Sydney
Hawthorn vs Adelaide
GWS vs Gold Coast
Brisbane vs Essendon
West Coast vs St Kilda
Geelong vs North Melbourne
Melbourne vs Carlton
Port Adelaide vs Fremantle

A dimension of pure BEES
Hi, I'm a new transplant from NRL country, and know nothing about this game. Can someone give me the 101 so I can blend in? It involves jumping really high in the air, right?

My other half barracks for Carlton and I have no soft spot ... they're terrible. He'll be amazed if they win a game this year. :)

I did um and ah over the Bulldogs vs Sydney GF rematch. Sydney always tends to play really badly in round 1, so I discount their first up performance. I wasn't overly impressed with the doggies last weekend. It's a risky pick, but I'm tipping for Sydney being up for revenge after last year.

West Coast has such a better away game than people give them credit for. Every time we win an away game (see: against North, last week) it gets no attention. But whenever we lose one, we get labelled "flat-track bullies." This really bugs me, because not only do we travel more than any other team (and much farther), the teams we lost to last year when travelling were like Sydney (SCG), Hawthorn (MCG), Adelaide (Adelaide), GWS (GWS), Geelong (Geelong). All great teams, all with as much a home-ground advantage as we have. Hardly anyone beats those teams at their home grounds. *shrug*

I've no idea why no one comments when Hawthorn loses every away game (not that they play many), but we cop it.

TL;DR even if WCE vs St Kilda was played in Melbourne, WCE would have been odds-on favourites to win.

See, that's the attitude Jaymz should have!

Step 1: Pick a team. I feel the dapper bird-headed man needs a bird-themed team. Personally, I recommend the Eagles (I'm biased). Other choices: Adelaide Crows, Sydney Swans. You are not allowed to barrack for the Collingwood Magpies though, lest you be ... ostracised.

Yeah but yeah but Carlton vs St Kilda - most have a soft spot for the Saints - most hate Carlton nearly as much as Collingwood. :D

And yeah I reckon the Weagles would have still won the game over here, but an upset would have been in the realms of possiblity. Maybe.

Who's your team, Sian?

:) Who do you barrack for Sian?

This is a sort of complicated answer.

Once upon a time my parents divided us down gender lines. I got St Kilda, my brother got Richmond.

I then went an volunteered as a tutor with North Melbourne football club, because they do a lot of outreach with kids from refugee communities. I did a lot of escorting very excited, mostly sudanese kids, to games. Thus, I sort of started barracking for North, unless they were playing against St Kilda.

I appreciate the irony that I essentially barrack for two teams that always seem like they're going to do well right until the last quarter.

What's wrong with these drongos, mate? That's a fair dinkum asinine change to make.

caw

I had to ask my mother to explain what the hell drongo meant about three years back. We were watching a movie from the 70s. She sort of blinked an me and was all "but..."

I then pointed out I was born in 91, and I think drongo was on it's way out as slang in the 80s.

*pokes blacbird*

Richmond, St Kilda, and North Melbourne? Wow, you're a glutton for punishment.

:D

I feel like we should add a link in the OP.

Is it wrong that I laughed when their example of how the scoring worked involved Carlton scoring 120 points? In what reality?

You can also date how old some of those clips are by the number of tatts on Dane Swan. LOL.
