Oh no. Mr. BF has just made an excellent and worrying point.

The knock on Port Adelaide is that they haven't beaten a top eight side. As of right now ... my team is not a top eight side!

Rather than talking footy this week BF ;) here be my random thought after seeing ads for the swimming world champs:

Cam McEvoy, Kerrin McEvoy, Ben McEvoy. Swimmer, jockey, footballer, each at the elite level for their sport. Presumably? not related (surely not the ruckman and the jockey :) ), with not the commonest of surnames. Any more of that ilk? (I shall ponder this rather than the fate of my tiges or my WIP.)

Totally agreed on the no footy talk. Ugh. Mr. BF is currently watching AFL 360. I'd be happy to not.

Oooh, intriguing. I'll have to think on that one. Presumably really common surnames don't count (like "Lewis"* or "Johnson").

*Have I ever mused here about how I always hoped Tamsyn Lewis would get together with James Duckworth, so they could hyphenate their surnames and be Duckworth-Lewis (and then obviously have a kid who'd play cricket)?

:D

I'll ponder the name question while I attempt to make WIP words happen. I suspect they won't tonight.

Round 17

This week is technically "Country Round", though no one knows wtf that means. For me, it calls to mind last year's ridiculously non-sequiturish Woolies ad about players who grew up "on or around dairy farms" ... and even with the "or around" caveat, they could only come up with two guys. Yes, "on or around dairy farms" gets quoted quite a lot in (and around) the BF household.

Sorry, I digress.

So this week is "Country Round" but it reads more like rivalry round. West Coast meet Freo (oh god, we're so going to lose). Geelong and a resurgent Hawks, anyone? How about GWS and the comeback-kings of 2017: Sydney. What odds could you get for GWS playing a draw for three weeks running?

Melbourne v Adelaide and Carlton v the Doggies look like far closer matchups than they did at the start of the season. For that matter, Richmond v Brisbane looks closer than it did two weeks ago. I'm looking for a Tigers fight back this week after they forgot to show up in round 16 and sent a bunch of witches hats in their place.

Oh, and in case I haven't yet made my excitement clear -- Josh Kennedy's back!! :hooray:

Round 17

St Kilda vs Essendon
Geelong vs Hawthorn
Port Adelaide vs North Melbourne
Gold Coast vs Collingwood
Greater Western Sydney vs Sydney
Melbourne vs Adelaide
Richmond vs Brisbane
Carlton vs Western Bulldogs
Fremantle vs West Coast

Good luck, ajaye! May your guys play better than last week. Shouldn't be hard.

I think I remember that, was one Tomahawk?

Yep. I had to look up the other one. Ben Cunnington.

Thanks BF, yeah I'm confident we'll play better than last week but that doesn't mean we'll win :/ . I like the inclusion of Miles cos he always plays his guts out - he might be able to show some of the others how to do it :) .

Good luck for your boys later on.

Thanks. :) Here's hoping for a wins for both of us. (I have far more confidence in your match than mine).

Round 18

How, oh how, is it round 18 already? I'm still waiting for this season to settle!

Tonight sees one play two. In the Crow corner, we have excitment-machine Eddie Betts. From the Cattery, Paddy Dangerfield (assuming he plays) who could have had 10 goals playing on one leg last week. Looks to be the match of the round. But I can't believe the Crows have named Sloane. That was one of the biggest head-knocks I've seen -- it should be an automatic week on the sidelines IMO.

Will Richmond re-live their nightmare from earlier in the year, and again blow their match with GWS with only 10 seconds left? Time will tell! And if Dusty wasn't a Brownlow favourite, would the match review panel have suspended him for a week? (Objective eyes say, "Most definitely.")

Will West Coast be buoyed by the footage of NicNat looking all agile and fit and raring to go which cropped up during the week? I bloody hope so. I'm also glad we're playing the Pies at Docklands and not at the 'G. We stand a slightly better chance this way (though I still expect to lose).

Freo v Hawthorn's an interesting one, especially if Freo kicks straighter than they did against my guys in round 17 (2.13 in a half won't win you many matches). They get Cam McCarthy back from suspension, which should help their cause.

Melbourne v Port's a really even match-up, I reckon, though Melbourne has quite a few big outs. OTOH, they somehow get Jack Viney back a couple of weeks earlier than expected. That kid's a tough-nut.

I'll be fascinated to see what kind of fight St Kilda puts up against Sydney. Sydney could potentially be 10 wins from 11 starts and in the top four by the end of the round. And this from a team that was at $101 to win the premiership a couple of months ago! Unbelievable.

Round 18

Adelaide vs Geelong
Essendon vs North Melbourne
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide
Western Bulldogs vs Gold Coast
Sydney vs St Kilda
Fremantle vs Hawthorn
Richmond vs Greater Western Sydney
Collingwood vs West Coast
Brisbane vs Carlton

Round 18

Adelaide vs Geelong Geelong has won the last 5 b/w these two. I'm not confident about this one.
Essendon vs North Melbourne this one, however...
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide tipping an upset, such as it is
Western Bulldogs vs Gold Coast
Sydney vs St Kilda
Fremantle vs Hawthorn
Richmond vs Greater Western Sydney No idea with this one, so I'm tipping for home ground and ajaye :)
Collingwood vs West Coast Ugh. My money's really on the Pies.
Brisbane vs Carlton sorry again, Mr. BF

Huh. I had no idea Bulldogs vs Gold Coast was being played in Cairns. I just assumed Docklands since it's the Doggies home game. Probably would've tipped GC had I known.

I know! I'm not impressed. I hate the ch 7 commentary. I just realised we're stuffed -- my team always loses when it's a milestone match, and today is Josh Kennedy's 200th, Luke Shuey's 150th, AND Elliot Yeo's 100th. We're in big trouble.

I also just realised ... Phil Davis and Scott Pendlebury are the same person. Wow. How have I never noticed their doppelgangerness before?

I'm watching it, and your guys are totally in control. Not to say you're home, but GWS kicked what? the first 21-odd points? Since then, it's been 6 points to 49 55. If you could see it, you'd know you're dominating general play.

Plus, it's pelting down here at the moment. Gonna be hard for GWS to come back. They also have a worse record at the 'G than my team. They've only ever won there once in 10 attempts. Just FYI. :)

I appreciated that BF :) But Richmond!

That last quarter was hard work but I made it to the end!

Now you've just got to knock off Collingwood so I can laugh at Eddie Crimson. (and Buckley)
