Realms of madness and insanity
Trump is basically using the office of the POTUS for personal gain and as a near political dictatorship by appointing people who are completely unqualified to lead a country. and only intend to use their positions to increase their personal capital and force their views on others. His comments about the media and the fact that he and his cabinet are chopping off gov't funding for anything that doesn't agree with their views is proof of that.

He has appointed a person with personal capital in private schools to lead the American public school system (and who says disparaging things to public school teachers http://www.ajc.com/news/local-educa...or-their-receive-mode/CI8F0xUS2CBLjI9DI1dZGO/) and who has never taught in her life and only has business experience and intends to push for increases in private school funding while gutting public schools http://www.slate.com/articles/life/...y_betsy_devos_could_gut_public_education.html (not even going to go into how most private schools are religiously-based http://www.theroot.com/betsy-devos-religion-and-taxpayer-dollars-for-private-1790857927 https://ffrf.org/outreach/item/22744-voucherfaq ).

He intends to chop off funding for the national endowment for the arts and PBS http://www.snopes.com/2017/01/19/trump-plan-nea-neh/.

He basically conducts state affairs at his private golf clubs https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...cee7ce475fc_story.html?utm_term=.b3a6326226b6 (where he recently raised the initiation fee to $200k http://nypost.com/2017/01/25/trumps-mar-a-lago-doubles-initiation-fee-to-200k/).

He is appointing a climate change denier to the head of the EPA https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/07/us/politics/scott-pruitt-epa-trump.html.

He is appointing the CEO of Exxon to secretary of state (drill baby drill) who was called a 'Friend of Russia' https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ary-of-state-have-one/?utm_term=.ee59dea6d4b5.

A former executive at Goldman Sachs (remember the banking crisis, why did no one ever get indicted for that?) to lead the treasury. What ever happened to America being a 'Union'? I don't think he is appointing a single dissenting/non-religious view to his cabinet besides possibly General Mattis.

Someone in Trump's campaign had constant contact with Russia https://www.washingtonpost.com/news..._experimentrandom_1_na&utm_term=.7a8eb1371bd9

Good lord. Can someone who voted Trump explain their take on it?

Americans have been in love with the idea of running the public sector like a business has a long history in this country. Ross Perot got a fair amount of public support back in the 80s for his mantra of "You wouldn't run a business like that!" and mainstream Republicans, and Democrats too (if to a lesser extent) have picked up the mantle. Once something becomes conventional wisdom, it goes unexamined. The attitude has crept into our public schools and universities, and imo it has been very toxic to the process of education and to academic freedom.

This article is on an admittedly liberal site, but the five steps to destruction of higher education resonate pretty well with what I've observed happening over the past 20 years I've been teaching at public colleges and universities.

The same could be said of tenure anymore...but that's a higher ed topic, and I digress.

Back to the reality TV that is our current government...

When I hear 'run the country like a business', why does my mind interpret this as one of those Chinese factories that's making stuff that used to be made in America, with underpaid, desperate workers, and dangerous chemicals in the food products?

So, does this mean that the US will have to declare bankruptcy as many times as Trump has?
