Apollo 17 Commander Eugene Cernan, the last man standing on the moon, passed away yesterday at age 82.

Cernan, on an earlier Gemini mission, nearly died during a spacewalk when his suit inflated to the point he had major trouble re-entering the capsule. One of the best-known of the post-Mercury astronauts.
