Browser closes when attaching files on Gmail

I was attaching some files on Gmail when suddenly I was booted out from Chrome. This continued happening a couple of times and downloaded Opera to see if this ocurred in other broswers and it does. Not only that but I can't apparently save anything either. I tried to save something in Word and it crashed and, after I read uninstalling and re-installing Chrome might solve the problem, I discover I can't download Chrome now either!

Please send help before I lose my mind!

Can you download and install BleachBit? A thorough cleaning of temporary files helps a lot of things.

Malware scanning is also a good idea when things go pear-shaped. Make sure your antivirus is updated and scan thoroughly. And that you don't have more than one AV active - they don't mix well. Also scan with a non-virus scanner such as Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, or Spybot. If you have trouble downloading any of them, it's a bad sign.
