I'm always interested in hearing gear rec's. I admire equipment rather than electronics.
In general, I always stand firm by my Dremel Tool. It's got the most variety of uses. Over the years of moving from one apartment to another; you soon learn to shed all unnecessary tools, bulky equipment, and extraneous gear. But I'd never abandon my Dremel.
Other home 'must-haves'? I actually don't own any heavy-duty items like cordless drills or cordless screwdrivers, the way pro's do.
The following assortment of small pieces is usually enough to handle anything I need.
Duct-tape (of course)
Crazy glue
Plastic ties
Various twine, cord, rope
Screwdriver set
Hex wrench set
Plumber's wrench
Lockjaw wrench
Several 'Vice-Grip' pliers
A few pairs of regular pliers (including needlenose pliers)
A couple different types of hammer (different sizes) and mallets
Hacksaw
Rotary sander
Hand drill
Hand vacuum
Tape measure
Torches and soldering kit
Various boxes of nails and screws, anchors, hooks
Small worktable press
Various grades of sandpaper
Lots of extension cords, surge protectors, etc
A few clamps
A files and rasps
A few planes and scrapers
Exacto-knives
