Water down your empty soul

Faunts - M4 Part II. The end credit music from Mass Effect. I love this song.

Edit to add new lyrics:

"You are cast out from the heavens to the ground
Blackened feathers falling down"

*sigh* That makes three in a row, though I'll give myself a pass on knowing the lyrics for a tune whose only claim to fame is as the closing credits tune of a TV show. :(

It was From the Pinnacle to the Pit by Ghost, from their 2015 album Meliora.

New lyrics:

"Dear Henry, taste my whip
Never to see any words you print"

Must be another heavy metal or alternative rock band because I'm clueless yet again...

Ok I cheated - that's pretty alternative there. LOL

Perhaps something more mainstream? :)

It was Lola Montez by Volbeat.

New lyrics:

"New moon on the right
All at once, risin' haze
The freeway is my life"

I've cheated on the last three, and I've not even heard of the band, let alone the song.

I think the only way we can get less mainstream right now is if Medievalist turns up with some Gregorian chants. :tongue

North Carolina, unfortunately

Sabbatum (Gregorian Black Sabbath tribute record)
Also: Grunt, a legit Gregorian chant children's book and CD by Sandra Boynton and one of my favorite things in the world. I'll just say it's set in a barnyard and the animals are singing in Latin (well, except the pigs who sing in... :D).

Sorry all, my last post was a bit out of line. What one person considers "mainstream" will vary based on their own tastes and regional trends. Ignore my comment if y'all can and let's get back to naming that tune! :)

Sophia is still in control with:

"...New moon on the right,
All at once rising haze
The freeway is my life.
..."

I got nothin’.

“New moon on the right” made me think of that (sorry→) hippie song lyric: “There’s a bad moon on the rise.” So now that song is stuck in my head. (And no, I don’t know the name of either band!)

Get Sophia's lyrics right (without cheating) and then you can propose your own. Also, the goal shouldn't be to stump or find something so obscure it kills the game, the goal is to keep the game going and share song lyrics :)

In the interests of moving the thread along, it's Midnight Highway by Accept - (I cheated)

Here's a new one:

"...Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama..."

Oh boy! Not only do I know it, I knew within seconds--I usually suck at this game, LOL!

The Beach Boys - Kokomo

"We walked the loneliest mile
We smile without any style
We kiss all together wrong
No intention"

The song is "Only the lonely," but I have to guess the band. The Motels? I know it's an early 80s pop one hit wonder.

Nice!

*DJ voice* Our next hit spins out to us from the summer of 2014. Slather on the sunblock, hit the pool, crank it up and rip off the knob!

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills
bringing darkness from above

Hmm, almost 12 hours and no guesses? I'll give it a few more then drop a hint later this evening.

A hint: The song is the name of a ruined Italian city, and the band is the name of a ruined French prison.

Miracle of miracles, I knew this one earlier, but didn't post. I find it hard to come up with lyrics that aren't obscure, but here goes.

I downloaded this song first listen, really loved it, and though it did take a sec to get it: Bastille - Pompeii

"I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
All the things we should've said that I never said
All the things we should have done that we never did
All the things we should have given but I didn't
Oh darling make it go
Make it go away"

Yay! Pompeii is one of the best Top-40 songs of the last few years.

As for yours, the only thing that comes to my simple mind is Simple Minds - "All the things she said." But that's a wild guess based on all the things you said. :)

I'm impressed, Ed. Thank frig I knew it! The hint wasn't much help to me, but I'll give one for mine. It's not Simple Minds.

It was featured in a movie soundtrack. It was covered by a male R&B artist, but the original is a British female. A contestant once sang it on American Idol.

:)

I'll add, the R&B version came out in 2001. The male singer needed falsetto to hit the high notes, especially in the beginning, with the "Ah, ha, ooo, ooo, ooos." I got chills when the contest on American Idol did it! They called him Big Mike of something, I don't remember exactly. Hope this helps. :)

It's from a movie, "She's Having a Baby". Kevin Bacon was in it. The song is played when she's in labor... it's a difficult birth. The song title is, 'This Woman's Work'. It's a female, but I can't remember her name. Seems like Prince did a remake of it?
