Hello, everyone! So I am about to embark on my latest WIP which takes place during the suffrage movement in America. However, I'm having so much trouble deciding what year/scene to begin with. 1917 or 1920.
The main bulk of the story takes place in those two years. My MC travels to Washington D.C. after America's entry into WWI to become a stenographer, gets swept up in the suffrage movement, and then gets arrested. Then, a few years later in 1920, she returns home to Nashville, TN, which was the last needed state to ratify the 19th amendment. She's involved with persuading the state representatives to vote in favor of suffrage, and some nasty stuff from her past comes back to haunt her.
Anyways, I don't know if I should begin with her returning home in 1920 and have everything else be flashbacks. I feel like getting arrested and spending time in jail during the night of terror is too big of a plot point to just be a flashback. Also, between 1917 - 1920, not much happens to my MC since she is on the campaign trail if you will trying to get states to vote in favor of ratification. I've thought about doing a part one (1917) and part two (1920), but I'm kind of a little leery of doing that.
Thoughts?
