Will the copyright symbol: © go through Smashwords’ meatgrinder and not clog it up or come out weird on people’s ebook devices? Or do I need to just put ‘copyright’ or (c) ?

I finished all of my formatting, but this one tiny detail bothers me. I’ve been using some video tutorials on YouTube for the formatting, and the author who made them said to avoid using characters that aren’t normally on a keyboard because it could either mess up the meatgrinder process or come out distorted on some ebook readers.

I was just curious about everyone else’s experience. I noticed in Smashwords’ formatting guidebook that they put ‘copyright’ in the front matter template, so I’m assuming I need to do something along those lines and avoid using the standard copyright symbol. Either that or type it like: (c).

From the Smashwords Guide:

Rather than using the © (circled c for copyright), just use the word ‘copyright’, because some e-reading devices and formats will turn it into a question mark.
