Next year on August 21 the total solar eclipse will be along a narrow band from northwest USA to southeast. OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, is planning a day filled with science exhibits and lectures, plus passing out viewing glasses.
In Oregon we'll be in darkness for about 2 minutes. South Carolina will get 2.5 minutes.
I'm not sure if we're going to go to the OMSI party day in Salem or go out to the coast, where the eclipse first touches land in US. Wikipedia says:

"The August 2017 eclipse will be the first with a path of totality crossing the USA's Pacific coast and Atlantic coast since 1918. Also, its path of totality makes landfall exclusively within the United States, making it the first such eclipse since the country's independence in 1776."
