Pat Summitt, the legendary University of Tennessee women's basketball coach, died today in Tennessee, the Pat Summitt Foundation announced this morning. She was 64.
Her son, Tyler Summitt, said in a statement, "She died peacefully this morning at Sherrill Hill Senior Living in Knoxville surrounded by those who loved her most."

That's pretty young. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's back in 2011.

Godspeed, Pat.

I'll echo what I tweeted earlier today.

I'm mourning the greatest college basketball coach we have yet seen.

This from a UCONN fan.

I remember watching her coach back in the 70s & 80s, thinking they would knock off the Lady Techsters eventually. I had no idea then how awesome she would become. The two people I credit with getting me into women's college hoops are Pat Summit and Cheryl Miller.

I saw her once at a WNBA game. Not close enough to speak with her, but the entire arena stopped and gave her a standing ovation. Everyone there knew she was a legend and paid tribute to what she had helped create.

Pat, thank you for everything you've brought to our lives.

Rest in peace.
