Greetings, Junebugs!

It's time to state your goals (writing and otherwise) for the month, so we can cheer you when you succeed and encourage you when the going gets tough. Since the official start of summer is coming up fast, I hope you'll have some fun stuff included in those goals!

Looks like things aren't going to end well for the snowman...

My June goals:
Write 2,000 a day. Still trying to work up to that pace.

Although my show has been extended an additional week (yay!), once it closes on the 19th I will be unemployed (boo). Since I don't have anything booked through the summer and currently no travel plans, this means I have NO EXCUSE not to finish my current WIP and maybe even start editing the damn thing. So...

1) Finish rough draft of WIP
2) Read three books
3) Write one short story
4) Beta read somethin' for someone
5) Take two bicycle rides of at least 3 miles
6) Take two nature walks of at least 3 miles
7) Repot two ginormous houseplants (trees, really)
8) Plant the nine asparagus seedlings I bought

ETA: I got up a head of steam and did my two gardening chores. That may be the fastest I've ever accomplished a monthly goal: before the month has even begun!

A lot of these are left over from May...let's see how far I can get this time!

1. Complete third draft of Part II of WIP by June 10. (10/10 chapters complete)
2. Complete third draft of Part III of WIP by June 12. (0/6 chapters complete)
3. Complete short line edits of WIP by June 15. (0/3 parts complete)
4. Ship WIP to beta readers by June 16. (Incomplete)
5. Read at least two YA novels released within the past 6 months. (2/2 books read)

June already ... this will be a hard month, desk full of work, Ramadhan starting next week, but still:
I want to write at least the end of my WIP (actually about 55k words), and try to sort out what needs to be told in the chapters that are still missing somewhere in the middle.
Lets see if I manage ...

1. Edit the "Maple Tree" short story
2. Keep editing Incubus; I'd like to reach the middle of the book by the end of June.
3. Cherry on top: write something new, maybe a short.

Right! Here we go again!

June Goals:

  • Add five minutes a day to my writing-related tasks
  • Organize my office
  • Read June and July books for Book Club
  • Finish the short story I need to complete for the 15th
Constant Goals:

  • Continue to work on getting writing-related tasks in earlier in the day
  • Work on shifting wake-up & go-to-sleep times
  • Catch up on Marvel shows (Jessica Jones, Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil S2.)
  • Keep writing streak going (5/12 months so far)

I think that's enough for now :)

All right, June is here! My students are taking finals tomorrow, so work from here on out is just a bunch of smaller miscellaneous tasks for the next few weeks and then I am completely free. Really going to challenge myself this month because I have so much time, so will try to write even more than I did during Camp NaNo.

  • Write 20k words to bring WIP up to about 86k
  • Read six books
  • Get back into the habit of writing in my five year diary

It might be tough but I think I actually have a shot at this! :D

Wrote the next sequence in the WIP - slightly over 1k words. Everything is denouement housekeeping right now, and it's nice to be past all the dread and grief at last and moving into the Happily Ever After portion of the book...although since there's a sequel, it's not exactly a HEA; more like Happy for 20 Years or So Until the Shit Hits the Fan For the Last Time...

Flying out to a wedding this weekend. I swear, I'll be at least a little productive. I swear.

  • Join Beta Project
  • Do Beta Project crits
  • Apply Hexes edits
  • Finish scene list for next project
  • Finish beta read I'm midway through
  • Send nudge for my full
  • Cry over the rejection I'll get in response to nudge

I'm sure there are other things, and once again not putting anything query-related... but still, it's a list.

I made goals and somehow a week has already gone by. I've decided not to make query related goals this month. I just keep failing them and then feeling bad that I fail them. I need to reassess where I am with that, obviously. Already done a chapter and started on the next one. Will do some drabbles (missed the original deadline I was aiming for, but they're quarterly, so).

Read The Martian. I've been wanting to for a while, but the copies in my library are perpetually on loan. The person who lent me the Bujold books also had The Martian so I took advantage. It was flawed, but it was also so engaging it didn't matter. Now I'm reading Fire Touched, the latest in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. It's nice to settle in with familiar characters.

So light writing goals this month. Hopefully I'll get a bunch of reading done.

1. Edit four chapters Book 2. 1/4
2. Write and fix some drabbles. done some, will do more
3. Read five books. 1/5
4. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited / day. So far so good.

Well done mrs Mig! I've managed to keep my plant alive. It's a weekly goal, and not an easy one for me!

1. Edit the "Maple Tree" short story Done
2. Keep editing Incubus; I'd like to reach the middle of the book by the end of June. Plodding along nicely, even though I switched my whole project from yWriter to Scrivener. It's doable.
3. Cherry on top: write something new, maybe a short. *crickets*

Weekly check-in!

  • Add five minutes a day to my writing-related tasks (progressing nicely)
  • Organize my office
  • Read June and July books for Book Club (started the June book, and have both from the library)
  • Finish the short story I need to complete for the 15th (started the re-write)

A bit of progress, so not too bad.

June arrived - and all I got done was my work. I let myself be eaten up and with too many visitors only hardly kept my deadlines.
Writing? Not yet. Just trying to find my way back into the mood and on the side thinking about another project sleeping somewhere on my desktop...

This looks almost like I've been I've been productive. I did a decent amount of work over the wedding weekend. I hadn't really expected to get so much accomplished. I am having a bit of a crisis about the nudge, but I figure I should do the job and get it over with.

Quick question: Will you guys be doing an AW cabin for next month's camp? I've never been in a winning cabin, and it wounds my soul.

Yeah, someone will (I can if no one else does, anyway, though I have no idea what I'll be working on next month...)

Raindrop, for Camp Nanowrimo, we usually make a cabin or two, and invite AW'ers, so we can all keep one another motivated for the Camp month.

Second week update - mostly writing, although I finished another book: Selkirk's Island, a non-fiction work by Diana Souhami about the real-life inspiration for Robinson Crusoe. It was actually pretty dry reading, but at least it wasn't too long.

1) Finish rough draft of WIP wrote about 1,300 words this week. Edging ever closer to the end...
2) Read three books 2 of 3
3) Write one short story
4) Beta read somethin' for someone
5) Take two bicycle rides of at least 3 miles
6) Take two nature walks of at least 3 miles
7) Repot two ginormous houseplants (trees, really) DONE
8) Plant the nine asparagus seedlings I bought DONE
