Most comedic books are like personal essays from David Sedaris or 101 Things to Do with a Dead Cat type stuff. Or Amy Schumer releases something.

But are there any fictional novels that are comedy based?

A 314 page novel, fiction, about an offbeat Lobster fisherman and his crazy crew?

Ya know what I mean?

And if there are, are there any famous ones? Any authors who specialize in that?

Thanks!

Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Jasper Fforde.

Different flavors, not quite my thing but maybe will work for you: Carl Hiassen, Kinky Friedman, A. Lee Martinez.

Probably more . . .

Garrison Keillor comes to mind. Though I probably misspelled his last name name.

Please stop saying 'fictional novels.'

Sure, tons; the above, plus Douglas Adams, Evelyn Waugh, Clyde Edgarton...

I think I read here recently that Dave Barry has written a couple of novels too. I'm not particularly a fan so I haven't read them and can't speak to how good they are, but he is a popular writer.

I think Barry has a coauthor. I don't recall who, and may be thinking of someone else, but iirc, he and his coauthor made the talk show rounds a while ago.

There's a genre called humor where writers like Dave Berry, Erma Bombeck and other "funny" people share bits of wit and wisdom about the absurdities of daily life. But there are also a ton of novels that are written to be comedic, absurd, or satirical.

Anything satirical or irreverent fits the bill. Haven't you heard of authors like Mark Twain, Joseph Heller, PD Wodehouse, Evelyn Waugh, George MacDonald Fraser, Stella Gibbons, Hunter S. Thompson, Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett? Women's fiction (subcategory that used to be called "chick lit") includes some humorous titles too, as I understand.

(BTW, novels are by definition works of fiction, so the term "fictional novel" is completely tautological).

I don't know what your tastes are, whether you're looking more for contemporary work or classics, literary or genre, darker humor or absurdist stuff, but just try googling "comedic novels" or "funny novels" or "humorous fiction" or "satirical fiction" or something like that, and you'll be deluged with titles.

Sue Townsend's Adrian Mole books.
Puckoon by Spike Milligan.
Diary of a Nobody by George & Weedon Grossmith.

ETA: Cold Comfort Farm is one of my favourite books.
