I really like what he was saying there (including the part not quoted, about forgetting-- in the way that you "forget" things that you know so well that you don't have to consciously think about it). I suck at improv, though. :tongue


Mostly I use music as a pick-me-up, so I tend to like big band/swing jazz-- Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, etc.

The reason it's "the most recorded song in swing history" is because it's just so darn fun to play. :D It was one of our go-to songs in band and I have never seen happier trombonists. :ROFL:

For blues jazz, there's M Ward's cover of Bowie's "Let's Dance" which is phenomenal, imo.

Janis Joplin is pushing it more out of jazz'n'blues to rock'n'blues, but I really love her cover of Gershwin's Summertime, raspy-ness and all.
